New downloadable content for Xbox Pirates!

Pirates! news icon
There's a short item over at in which new downloadable content for the Xbox version of Pirates! is announced:

Free Downloadable "Even the Odds" Pack
The "Even the Odds" minigame is an action sequence in Sid Meier's Pirates! for the Xbox that takes place when you engage an enemy ship in a duel, but are heavily outnumbered. It gives you a chance to kick some booty even when the odds are against you. The pack adds two new action sequences and a number of new patterns to the "Even the Odds" minigame. Created by the Firaxis Xbox development team, the first new sequence involves an enemy pirate swinging towards the player character on a rope, and the other has an enemy pirate hurling a large barrel at the player. They deliver even more action-packed challenges for swashbucklers of all ages!

Sounds pretty cool.

Pirates! 6th In IGN's Top 100 Games Of All Time

Site news icon
IGN published a list of what they feel is the Top 100 Games Of All Time. On place 6, we find the original Sid Meier's Pirates! and who can blame them for that choice? Here's what they had to say about it:

Why it Made the Top 100 List: One of the first and most open-ended and non-linear games in history, Sid Meier's booty-filled masterpiece is just as relevant today as it was nearly 20 years ago. Looking at the excellent remake/revamp for PC and Xbox proves that Pirates! is still every bit as fun, addictive, time-consuming and timeless as it was two decades ago. The game's simplicity, coupled with its seemingly never-ending possibilities, makes Pirates! just as accessible as it is deep. Sid Meier set a bar for adventure and exploration games that few to this day that have ever even approached.

Of course the top 10 of this huge list wouldn't be complete without another Sid game in there. Civ II occupies the 4th spot. For the complete list, check: IGN's Top 100 Games.
