!#$%^&

So, after reading over some posts and challenges the last week or so, I tried to dust off my Pirates icon sitting over on the left side of my home screen.

And kept getting that error. It never happened before. THe only thing I can think of that is different, is that I have a new monitor. I currently have directx11 and win7, which is supposed to be compatible. And it was last year before the new monitor on this same desktop...

I tried changing the config file to different values per several website suggestions. None of them helped.

Anyone face similar issues? any suggestions? Maybe I didnt enter the correct values for width/height...

You can download DirectX9C from Micorsoft. It will not conflict with DirectX11. That might help. Here's the link.

Cool... thanks

I'll try again this week. I downloaded something from MS, but it didnt work, either. It's weird. It almost seems to have to be due to the monitor drivers, but I have no idea how to confirm and/or what to do to adjust/fix.

Oh well... it wouldn't install because it found a newer one. I'll keep searching.

Thati is strange. I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and was able to install DirectX9c and successfully run Pirates. Did you try running Pirates in Windows XP compatibility mode?

I have one notebook running Win7 that works with the DX9.0c provided with the game disk.

Another with Vista business cannot run direct x and I get the usual failure to load message.

What the MS-hell is going on? Anyone?
