Piracy was in part, a thumbing of the nose at the regimented societies of Europe where not only was the color that you could wear dictated, but the fabric as well! Our good pirate, no doubt took the purple sash as booty from the first noble person that fell into his clutches as a political statement...

Ah, but when we first encounter our hero in his permanant uniform, onboard the ship that is taking him to the new world, he already had the purple sash!

He came from a noble, landowning family. When his great-grandfather refused to pay fealty to the king, his head was cut off and the king stole his home and land and threw his family out in the streets.
WAIT... that's MY story. hmmmm.... maybe I should wear a purple sash?

You are already wearing a purple long coat thedon so a purple sash wouldn't go very good with that color scheme .

Yeah, I agree Westley. From the man completely in red. At least I change me britches every now and again. They are white now. So I kind of look like Falconer in green. hehehe...

I have long since switched due to fancy for the female pirates... So purple or not... no longer important... Meet my First Mate... Beatrice!!! |

Actually Oldman. I believe you have things twisted around a bit. What would you say to the fact that Beatrice is the Captain and you are just a lowly deck hand? hehehe...

The Captain that is taking our hero is mad our boy because he tumbed his nose at the noble captain and took his sash. That's why he has it on the westward journey.

First I noticed that our hero already wore a purple hair band as a boy in the opening sequence. So he may have chosen this colour to be a kind of talisman and therefore wears a purple sash to bring him luck.
Second the purple sash fits to all uniform colours of the different nations, does it ?
