Yes perhaps - in my case - a C64.

Kinda hard to argue with that logic... what else could have possibly existed before that piece of perfection.

When I first started work - the office was fully equipped with 1 Computer - and it was a MAC SE/30 - though I did not play Pirates on it.

Well, why not? Surely that's what it was for.

I first played Pirates! on a Dell Dimension E 310. However, I'm breaking my own rule and saying that for me the first computer came before I played Pirates! (Hey, I'm a pirate. I can break my own rules.

For me, the "first" computer was the Kaypro II. It was a very decent portable computer by the standards of the time and I still remember blowing up Klingon space ship on one of the ludicrously out of date games it came with, the kind where "graphics" means a "." to show and empty space, and "E" to show the Enterprise, a "K" to show a Klingon ship, etc. It was my dad's first computer, and when he was ready to move up, he sold it to me in exchange for a summer's hard work. That was plenty fine by me.

I also got a daisy wheel printer (remember those?) which made cool noises every time you turned the printer on. Both devices long done now.

I have to agree with wolfwood that :
Quote:
It means he doesn't have anything useful to tell you (the rumored whereabouts of Baron Raymondoet al, the nearest beautiful daughter, the "need" for a raid by pirates or Indians, the location of prospective immigrants waiting for an escort).

That is true.

My nieces and nephews saw me playing Pirates! on vacation and all took an interest in the game. I bought them copies and they began discovering the details, learning not to sail their ships across reefs, how to ambush the night watchmen, and retire as governors. After a time they all stopped playing. Why? "AGING IS NO FUN!"

I said this must be the most educational game you'll ever play. Laughing

Did you copy and paste this from something I once wrote? Seriously, I had the exact same experience - playing volleyball was where I first noticed my slowed reaction time.
