It's easier to make a different texture based off a old one. Same as a nif. Make one nif for ten textures that look similar is faster then ten nifs and ten totally different textures. Need a new pirate the take Blackbeard give him a dark skin tone and a grey beard and call the texture Blackbeard-various and poof you got a new pirate. |

Its like waiters. Nobody notices what they look like or would recognize their waiter in the street a week later. As far as your pirate is concerned, they don't rate enough attention to notice the difference.
