OK, time's up. Fiberglass rope was developed during World War II because of shortage in other materials. When they developed the rope, they found it was MUCH stronger than Manila or Hemp rope. So, it is much more widely used today than other types of rope.
Here's a new question:
After London, identify the next two most populous cities of Great Britain (not just England) |

I like this new line of questioning, Salty Dog. It can be applied to various countries, and it's not USA-centric.
I'm kind of baffled. I was to Scotland briefly once. I know more about England during the Napoleonic Wars than I do about it now. Guesswork-
Glasgow and Manchester. |

The difficulty is that different sources may give different answers. For instance, one of these sites ranks Glasgow as 4th, the other as 7th. Salty's source must have ranked it as second or third.

Well I certainly agree with the "Blue Baron" that different sources give different answers so that makes it a difficult question no doubt. Anyway being the gentleman I am since the dude who let his cutlass rust answered correctly one out of two the same like me I'm gonna let him have the honer to ask the next question. |

Interesting. I've been to both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and Edinburgh seemed bigger to me.
The biggest conflict between Mr. Blue's lists appears to be Leeds, which is 58% larger by one reckoning than by the other. Does one list include the suburbs? Or was there rapid growth/decline between the dates on which the lists were compiled? |

One list I found had Leeds ranked second behind Birmingham and this one I think did include the suburbs. Anyway I gave up my turn to Rusty Edge if he wants it since he got the same amount correct as I did. If he doesn't then the floor will be open. |

Like I said, I liked Salty's idea for a new line of questioning, the trouble is that it depends who is counting and how.
Remember when I calculated the area of various islands on the map in acres?
Land area for countries and islands is more easily defined, because the borders are clearly established.
Obviously, the largest countries by area in South America are Brazil, followed by Argentina. What is the 3rd largest country in South America? |

Colombia is in 4th place. That would have been my guess before researching it. But it's not right. |
