Correct, Salty! Bannister's record has been broken several times by men, but no woman has broken four minutes yet.

OK, no one wants to answer that question. The answer is ONE. Javier Sotomayor of Cuba is the only person to every high jump eight feet. He did it in 1993 and no one has done that since.

One more track and field question. For many years the record for the long jump was in the high 27 feet range. No one had ever jumped 28 feet. Then, one day, not only did someone jump 28 feet, his jump was over 29 feet! Actual distance for the jump was 29 feet, 2 inches. He increased the world record by over 14 inches, an amazing feat. It took many years before that record was surpassed.

Who was the first person to jump 28 and 29 feet?

I looked it up, and found Mike Powell is credited with the record.

Powell raised the record from 29 feet 2 inches to 29 feet 4 and change. Who was the guy who first jumped 29 feet?

That's it! Bob Beamon! I was watching the 1968 Mexico Olympics on TV when it happened. They were covering a different event live - probably a running event. Then they announced that the world record for the long jump had just been SHATTERED! They cut away and ran an instant replay (relatively new invention at that time) of Beamon's long jump. The previous world record was 27 feet 4 inches or so and Beamon jumped 22 inches beyond the world record to 29 feet, 2 inches. An amazing feat!

That record stood from August 1968 until June 1991 - 23 years. We thought that was forever! Then, in June 1991 Mike Powell and Carl Lewis staged the greatest contest of all time, it was in Tokyo. Both men jumped over 29 feet and between them they had 5 or 6 of the greatest jumps of all time. The record of 29 feet, 4 inches has stood since June 1991. That is over 26 years and still counting! That record has stood even longer than Beamon's amazing feat!

Still, Bob Beamon's jump in the 1968 Olympics is regarded as the most exceptional single performance in the history of athletics. Nothing tops it.

Your turn Roland, good job!

Not counting the animated series, five Star Trek series have aired on television. What is the total number of episodes from these five series? No cheating. Closest answer wins.

I am going to guess 975. An estimate based on facts I know about TV Trek.

It has been nearly 48 hours - I guess fleetp isn't going to take a guess.

The correct answer is 703 live-action TV episodes from the five Star Trek series combined. Salty Dog came the closest.

I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode of every series except Voyager, which I mostly skipped.
