Greetings from St, Kitts! Had a great day with an excellent local tour operator who owns her own company and vans. She showed us the whole island, especially Brimstone Fortress Ana’s an awesome view of the Strait between St. Kitts and Nevis.
Yesterday we were at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic in a town called Punta Cana. We went to an awesome hotel/beach resort where they pampered us with open buffet and open bar and a great beach. We had already visited Key West. Weather has been god except for some rain yesterday. We visit another SMP island tomorrow - Antigua.
More news tomorrow! |

He means he won't be able to operate the machines at the laundromat and will have to go dirty again.

With more or less 3 trans-continental railroads already in place in North America, why was the Trans Canadian Railroad built? |

Pretty much. It would have been more economical to tie into the American rail network than build their own from scratch. The problem was that encroachments from Chicago-Minneapolis threatened to gut Canada not just culturally-economically, but the USA has a history of making inhabitants of neighboring territories defacto minorities with settlers, Texas and Washington being examples.
It was quite an engineering problem. The north central part of the continent had been bulldozed by glaciers, leaving exposed ridges of granite which had to be dynamited, and swampy muskeg holes with submerged ice which seemed impossible to fill or bridge. The trans-Canadian railway anchored British Colombia to Ontario and Quebec, and let them share western resources, eastern industry and ports to Britain, telegraphs, etc. Unification achieved!
Your turn, Roland.
( I love writing/saying the name Roland, because it's so epic ) |

In The Song of Roland, Charlemagne's army besieges the city of Saragossa - a real city now known as Zaragoza. These are shortened forms of the name bestowed on it by the Romans. After whom did the Romans name the city?
No cheating. I'll give hints after wrong guesses. |
