I am going to guess they spotted the Japanese Fleet as it steamed towards Midway Island.

They also picked up pilots whose planes were damaged or malfunctioning and could not make it back to the aircraft carrier or base.

Both true.

The other two movie worthy incidents were finding the Bismark, and rescuing the survivors of the USS Indianapolis ( torpedoed and sunk on the return leg of the top secret mission to deliver the atomic bomb. Nobody knew where it was. )

Your turn, Salty

Roland is right, I remember when he was the first US Astronaut to orbit the Earth and he made three round trips.

I would say close to twenty but at least one of those flights resulted in deaths and others may not have achieved their objective.

I think the first few did not count. I don’t remember really low numbers and the last one was either 15 or 16. so, I will guess 12.

Salty Dog wins. The answer is 11, so he missed it by 1.

The first manned Apollo mission was number 7, and the last was number 17. Apollo 1 did not launch because the astronauts died in a fire during a test a few weeks before the scheduled launch. There were no Apollo missions numbered 2 and 3, and missions 4 through 6 were unmanned.

Name three types of lodging structures used by Native North Americans. I can think of six offhand. Name three of them.
