I don't think you're going to find any difference in your crew based on whether you get them in a tavern or pick up sailors or indians at sea. Once they're aboard your ship they're all crewmen.

You`re right there Don, when you blast an Indian war canoe with cannon fire the flying crewmen are the same as any others, not like the Indians in a Land Battle.

I remember my first SoTL....
Od's Blood! A good ship she was. I miss her still.

Just gathered up my 8'th SoL in my current Game. I got my first 4 at the beginning of the game, the extra three was such a nuisance hunting down Monty and Raymondo that I sold 'em off. Now that all Villains and Pirates are dealt with, all treasures and Family members found, I decided to start some serious Pirating.

It took me a good long while before I managed to get the frogs somewhat upset. But evenytually they started sending them about.

In 1725, I managed to spot and capture 3 within a few weeks. Then a year past and I all but gave up on making it a 5-ship squadron, but just as I got the pardon, they sent the 5'th SoL my way, then two more within a few weeks again.

And after another 6 Months I spotted one more, and I got the complete Fleet of 8 SoL's.

Just sailing about hunting down whatever Frogs and Spaniards in sigth, 8 ships is not so much of a nuisance as it is hunting for Monty and co. (Darn those bastards know how to set sails...)

Just discovered an interesting thing, though it is in line with the principles of Headrock's system. After turning the world Dutch, before trying to exploit the money bug escorting mayors and sugar plants, I turned on the Dutch, blockaded Puerto Bello and Nombre de Dios, and got hit with 7-8 SOTLs in pretty rapid succession. Makes sense, but it was impressive. Smile

Money bug works in my prepatched version though I don't know if the amounts are as large as the original un-patched game. I got rid of the English so I wouldn't have to deal with the annoying Eng. cpt.ot grd. because I'm gettin to old. Now when I go to a settlement that's at war with Eng. and get a job from the mayor, an Eng. brig or sloop will show up with anywhere from 5,000-25,000 gold. It seems to alternate between an English vessel and a Pirate vessel with the usual 200-800 gold.

I had downloaded the patch, and I get results similar to what Loki describes. Not every ship is a pay-off, and of course sometimes you get attacked by pirates. But if I get attacked by an eliminated nation (often two ships, sometimes three), at least one or two of them will be larger than normal amounts, often in the range of $15,000 to $29 or 30,000.

Now I want to go back to be sure I do have the patch (I had some upgrade problems unrelated to Pirates and had to uninstall and reinstall). Question

This money glitch? Is it the one where if you eliminate one whole nation you often find ships that have figures of up to 6 digits? I could really use that to keep my crew happy. I have the patch but will it happen?

I read a bit about this in an FAQ and it said one player actually got a negative number? This caused him to actually lose gold and crashed his game... Does this mean the same could happen to me if I did that?

Rupert, I tried out your "Moneybags" save game file you posted on an earlier thread, with my pre-patched 2K version. I get similar results with a couple of games I have. One with no English towns and one with no Spanish towns. But your Moneybags was the first time I ever got a negative amount, good thing you had over 7 million.

I don't know what kind of amounts you get with the unpatched game, but with the pre-patched version, I've found the typical amount to be 20-30 thousand. When I got the above negative amount the game didn't crash on me.

Wow, congratulations. I could never get one after the very first one, when I didn't know what I was doing. Smile
EDIT:Wanted to draw attention to my new boat Very Happy .
EDIT 2: After reading more of your paragraph, I realized my pirate's fencing skills weren't too great anymore also due to age, and if I do almost catch on (Come on SOTL! Smile Sailor ), what if I lose the swordfight to get it lol? That would suck.
