To be nice to the people that do a lot of hunting I have proposal for you.
I will give you 8 gold for relevant history links posted. Please provide a summary for each link. This will give everyone a place to go for links to history. I know this amount might seem like a lot but multiple links add up. I will only take the same link once so if it is easy to get to subsections on the same site. Just post that link please.

Ah well in that case, here's a fun one.

http://victorian.fortunecity.com/manet/394/page24.htm

This site has a brief overview of pirate history from the romans and vikings to the 19th/20th century. Links on that page also lead to more details about famous pirates, weapons, daily life, and even a further reading book list.

http://www.cindyvallar.com/pirates.html

Yarr, I found all sorts of info on this site. I wanted to post links to the individual sections that were interesting, but you can find them on your own. Vikings, Chinese, Women, there's a lot there.

http://hnn.us/articles/287.html

Well, despite it being written due to the 9/11 attack it does have some great information on the Barbary Pirates. Perhaps Americans should have Letters of marque in the next Pirates! game heheheh.

http://www.nd.edu/~ndmag/ilm3su96.html

Whoa, interesting page to start your search of piracy in the far east. Seems this professor found some good info.

http://privateer.omena.org/index.php

Another great information site, but this one focuses on the privateers. Again, I wish I could direct you to individual links, but all of you grown pirates can navigate yourselves to the places ye wish to go.

http://www.adp.fsu.edu/fleet.html

Sail Ho! There be treasure off the port bow! We all love plundering those Spanish treasure ships, now learn about them on this site.

http://www.geocities.com/captcutlass/index.html

It may be a bit hard on the eyes but it does seem a bit more encompassing than some of the other sites that try to hit all aspects of pirate life. I especially like the ships, flags, and weapons sections.

http://www.epinions.com/content_4280983684

A fun article focusing on spanish forts in the caribbean.

http://www.answers.com/topic/wokou

Whoa, cool! A very indepth page about a particular band of pirates that raied along the chinese and korean coastline.

http://www.sirfrancisdrakehistory.net/panama_raid/panama_raid.htm
http://www.global-travel.co.uk/drake.htm

Ah, something I miss about Pirates! Gold in the new one is the ability to capture the Spanish Silver Train. Each of these links talks about the Silver Train so I couldn't bring myself to post just one as each may have info not found in the others.

The most fun link I've found yet! Happened back in May! Just go and read you'll love it!

http://pirateshold.buccaneersoft.com/pirate_timeline.html

This time I'll send you to a direct section of a site. This time line is what I consider awesome. I mean come on, it starts back when the Hittites were around in enough force to be recognized.

I will keep looking and will edit this post when I find an interesting page.

Really liked the last one. Along with the timeline, it has links to other pirate information including information on heaps of pirates. Definitely worth a look.

Although he is a naval hero in America, in England John Paul Jones was considered a pirate, and one of the most famous. In honor of the man whose famous quote is my signature on this forum, here is a biography of John Paul Jones:

http://www.jpj.demon.co.uk/jpjlife.htm

Note that he won his most famous ship action sailing a converted East Indiaman against a British frigate. The Serapis outgunned him, but Jones won the fight by boarding the Serapis and defeating the British crew hand-to-hand. Been there, done that!

http://www.privateerdragons.org/index.html
General site about pirates, with history, and some people who apparently like to re-enact stuff.
The best bit for me is that there is a section of the site that has a list of actual historical pirates, both famous, and not so well known, with some details about them. Oh, and a pirate dictionary.

That link gets messed up by the site's Javascript, making the post hard to find. So here's another news story (with photo) about the same incident:

This site has links to somekind of university articles etc. Although all the links don't have content but many do (usually the ones with the green download bar) and not all is in English. Also there's a search option and articles' theme varieds from economy to history:

http://www.academia.edu/Documents/in/Pirates

This one is a good example what I found there. It's about King of Sweden and pirates of Madagascar:

http://www.academia.edu/11341203/King_Charles_XII_of_Sweden_and_the_Jacobite_Pirates_of_Madagascar

I found this site eight months ago when I was looking information about the Hellenistic era. Many hours spended there just by reading.
