I would think if you sailed north from Vera Cruz, eventually you would see that Blade Stone landmark close enough to the gulf. Go south a couple of inches and head west.

This is one instance I have no moral questions about saving the game, doing sweeps of an area, then reloading back to previous save. There is no sense wasting a year or two of character life on a map like that.

Make sure you go into Texas, too. They can be that far north.

I mentioned this in a previous thread but I think it is usually always true. Look for clearings in the trees. Most landmarks are located in or around these clearings. I would say based on this map, Monty's hideout is likely to be in a wooded area just west of a large clearing in the trees. Couple that with the position of water in the SouthEast corner of the map and you may narrow down to a couple of prime targets to search.

3 bodies of water on the right side of your map

North of Vera Cruz

Look in Louisiana.

Welcome to Pirates !!!.

This is how a lot of Montalban's Hideouts are - when you play the game more often - very obscure clues.

could be anything from the small inlet east of VC

to the East cost of the Yucatan.

The big problem is that you don't have the X on the map

If the 4th segment of the map doesn't have the X

you need the patch - and this city is lost forever

otherwise you're looking for a section where the main terrain features are solid instead of phantom. (you can't walk through them)

BTW its been YEARS since I've played this game, but isn't there an inland lake south of that inlet?

I would say it is probably easier just to bite the bullet and dance with a beautiful wife/girl friend just to get another map piece. The last one changes the vicinity to a specific direction.

this is one reason a lot of folks suggest marrying the closest beautiful daughter to this area. Most of the cities and hideouts are here, so it saves return trips to the Eastern Carib (if you eyed a St Kitts lady, for instance).

I'm no expert map reader, but it seems to me you have some good clues.

1: Vera Cruz is the nearest city. Unfortunately, the maps never tell you how far to the nearest city, only its name and the direction. Still, it narrows your search a lot because there are many places where Vera Cruz is not the nearest city.

2: Look for places that match the coastline shown on your map.

3: Check each and every one of them for that totem pole. It should be visible by sea.
