Way back, in the original versions of Pirates, when you attacked a city by land, there was swampy terrain included. It was a thrill to kill off the garrison after luring them into the swamp!! How come they removed this terrain feature in the remake ??
Any good suggestions ??
Oh, and btw, am I the only one who misses that feature of the game ?? _________________ HaP! Real Pirates hang out there! |

I remember those swamps!! They were great at slowing cav units down. You could bog down your enemy in the swamp and do an end around to storm the fort while they were stuck in the muck... However, with the new turn based land combat, It was just not useful any more. _________________

well, the kill ratio of shooting at units in swamps was pretty nifty too.... and that could still be usefull _________________ HaP! Real Pirates hang out there! |

I'm just glad they did away with that bit where you attacked by sea... seems like you were ALWAYS against the wind. _________________ "To Wives and Sweethearts! May they never meet."

True, but I still think people should have the choice .... there is a huge bug in the old game (Amiga version) if you attacked Puerto Cabello (next to where Caracas later appears) by sea, you would start your ship in-land and immidiately lose the battle.... grrrr So that you you just had to attack from land...
Btw, where is Borburata in this version ??? _________________ HaP! Real Pirates hang out there! |

I agree, I liked the swamps. They conveniently slowed down any enemy, and once they were stuck in it, I could advance without problems to the fort. I have to admit, though, that I never quite figured out the land battles in Pirates! Gold, i.e. at what distance the units shoot, how to properly attack etc. The handling was rather weird, the new land battles are a major improvement. |

Yeah the swamps were cool. The land battles are already too easy but if they made it harder but kept it from getting too hard by giving us things like swamps to use to our advantage that would be nice. _________________
