Cleared 7 million using this.
Here is a save where the bug works.
Try it and see if your system generates the extra moola.
Moneybags.zip
Never happens from Spanish ships (in this example)
Never happens from ships from towns/missions.
Only happens from ships sent as interceptors.
If you do not have the USA version, this will not work.
Seems that some people cannot get this to work.
If this can be verified, it proves that they have issued a different USA version on us and never told anybody. |

I have to caveat this with the fact I have the patched U.S. Limited Edition DVD. I've tried this ploy in earnest only as a Spaniard, and Englishman. I just finished a French rogue game, but worked myself into a position (with the patch) where I couldn't do it, due to the can't recapture clause. I don't mind this, though. It makes it, strategically, a more sticky situation that takes more forethought and planning to pull it off. I was trying to go for a cool million with this French guy, but only managed about 870,000 ... the 200,000 would have been an easy scoop with this ploy in place. But, not to belabor the point Rupert, it's worked every time for me. _________________

I've never gotten it to work, but I probably don't hold my mouth right. _________________ TheDon

I'll give this a go once I get home.
BTW, what's the best way (in your opinion) to use this? Immagrint transports?

Jah, immagrint missions are easier to get going someplace close. Sometimes a Mayor will want to go all the way across the Caribean.

Didn't work for me. I escorted two immagrint ships, and captured four privateer ships: two Dutch, two English. All gave me 100 gold each.
I would like to point out that I just bought the game a couple weeks ago from Game Stop (normal CD-ROM edition). So if there is a "newer" US version that they snuck in, I most likely have it.
System Specs:
CPU: AthilonXP 1700+ @ 900 MHZ (Downclocked from 1.1 GHZ)
RAM: 1024 MB
GPU: GeForce 3 500 (No TI, no MX, first run GF3)
V-RAM: 64 MB DDR w/ GeForce 3 standard pipeline
OS: Windows 2000 Advanced Server w/ SP4 (evaluation edition)
SMP Version: 1.0.0 (Unpatched)
I think it would be helpful if everyone else would submit thier specs along with what edition of the game they have, what media it is on, and the approximate time they bought it.
NOTE:
You'll notice I am using an evaluation edition of Win2K AS. This is my legal copy of the evaluation software. I would also like to add that I recomend that no one use a server package on a home PC. I do because I need to be able to study at home, and simulate domains and things of that nature.

I have the international version and it worked just once for me. There has to be a combination of things which make it work or not, in particular which nations are at war with which other.
I remember on the one which worked everybody was at war with the dutch when I took over all their ports. From then on they remained at war with all others for the rest of the game since you can not make peace with a nation that does not exist any longer. |

Ooooh I never noticed this topic before. I have been able to accomplish this on whatever version it is that I have. I didn't consider that. Here's a description and video demonstration of my strategy: (Dear God I hope I haven't upset Rupert!)
Dutch Treat (Motherlode) The Secret Hoard.
