Well, i have become a mail runner pirate... but i want to get some advice from the experts of the trade. Anyone got some tactics for me to use when fighting a ship biigger than mine? Anything will be great! _________________ May you be forever touched by his Noodly Appendage!

Mail runner would require about the same tactics as a war canoe, so I'd advice you to take a look at Ruperlittlebear's extensive advice in that respect.
For example, this thread contains some useful advice. _________________ It is much better to be armed with a sword that has two edges than with an estoc [...], which is nothing more than a stick with a point. (Rapier Master G. Morsicato Pallavicini, La Scherma Illustrata, p. 14.) |

Actually, I disagree with that advice. Mail runners are jsut enough larger that the tactics need to change a bit. My advice is to come towards the enemy ship from the North or the South, (perpendicular to the wind, which may change) and wait for the enemy ship to fire. When it does, jig towards the wind and wait until the shot is past and then continue towards the enemy. Feel free to pepper the enemy with cannon fire when you jig. Eventually, you will get close enough to do two things: Board, or keep aft while they try to turn and shoot you and demast them. Either way. It depends on your swordfighting. _________________

thanks people, i have tryed a few things but it does so damage... one thing i do is start running from an enemy and turn to give em a broaf side and back to the running, this works pretty well with the large ships and such, you can easily knock out their cannons and take a bit of damage. _________________ May you be forever touched by his Noodly Appendage!

Dodge and board!
Using their desire to land a broadside, you can steer their ship! |
