Hey guys!
I've "Ask(ed) Sid" on the firaxis website and got an answer some minutes ago.
Look:
Yes, this is correct. It is in final testing now, and will be released shortly.
Thanks for supporting Firaxis Games!

Hello!
I have just two small questions:
Is it ture that there is a 1.0.2 patch on its way?
If yes: when is it done?
Thanks for answering.

Hmm.. is that why they've relentlessly squashed bugs in Civ3 and have been until the end? I've known them to be slow and I'll grant you, they're slow as hell this time around, but with everything that happened over at Atari, I can't really blame them. Publishers have a big say in what's going on when it comes to patches. If they stick the whole thing on hold, then Firaxis' hands are tied.
It's frustrating, but I can't see how you can call them liars. |

It's frustrating, but I can't see how you can call them liars. | 1) Patch listed items as patched that weren't. Pure Lie
2) Consistent lies about when the patch will be issued. Never willing to tell customers the truth.
3) Requiring paying customers to do their beta testing. Shipped produce was not ready for customers . . . Yet another Lie. |

I don't think they've lied about this particular patch. As far as I remember, they said that they might get back onboard the patch wagon once the dust settled on T2 deal... Given that those things take time, I'd not say that they've lied about anything if the patch comes out in two or three weeks from now.
The mess-up with the previous patch was a bad one, I admit that much, but it is still my impression on the matter that it was Atari who forced Firaxis to stop working on it and just published a half-finished work to the public. The relationship between Atari and Firaxis was going down already at the time, so I blame that for most of the trouble.
The very first patch that people sometimes refer to, that came out just a couple of weeks after the release of the game was _never_ officially announced as a patch. As far as I understand, it was merely a file that Firaxis/Atari had prvided for people who had problems with the security measures on the DVDs/CDs.
As it is, my opinion of Firaxis is very much affected by the good work they've done with Civ3 in the past, always coming up with new patches to fix some problems and introduce new ones. Unfortunately, the latter part seems to be unavoidable... There's still stuff in Civ3 that would have required fixing (invisible submarine units causing wars), but Firaxis stopped working on it, in favour of Civ4. _________________ It is much better to be armed with a sword that has two edges than with an estoc [...], which is nothing more than a stick with a point.
