I have always wondered why when you go to a named pirate's hideout (before you defeat him) why there was a grayed out 'Talk to Pirate X'. I understand that it is grayed out as he isn't there, but if he is in port what happens??? Through guesswork and a bit of investigation I think that you end up fighting him, but I'm not sure.

If anyone has talked to a named pirate in his home port, please post here and tell me what actually happens.

Whilst I'm on the subject of fighting people in taverns, how do you fight the 'Annoying Foreigner'. I know he exsists as I have seen screenshots of him (see Set 2 of Screenshots, above) and seen his skin when I was sifting through the .FPK files for something to mod.

Whats this about an annoying foreigner Exclamation I've never heard of him. Only guys I've seen in the taverns are the captain of the guards, and those spies.

I went into a pirate's home base before when he was in town. (His ship was just outside of the pirate haven though, so it was still visible on the map.) When I talked to him, he said something like:
"I'm Captain Kidd, the 3rd most notorious pirate on the spanish main, and you are not! Why don't you leave town now, before I give you the black spot."

I wasn't sure exactly what the "black spot" was, and I didn't want to stick around to find out.

The black spot is simply that, a piece of paper with the black spot on it. I've read this in books Very Happy Pretty much all it is, is a warning. You get the black spot, the pirate and his crew will come kill you. A death sentence if you will. Shocked

i've come across both Montobaln and Reymondo in taverns of the
port they were visiting.
Yes it IS possible,,it just takes fortuitous timeing to catch them IN port.
Got into fights with them and won, and got new map parts.

BUT= there is a drawback to catching these guys in port in the tavern.
When you beat them in a tavern you just get a map part,,that is all.
Nothing Else. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

Thats why i very much prefers to catch them at sea instead.
When ye beats them at sea ye get a map part, PLUS the all the gold
they have onboard the ship, The ship itself,,and its cargo.
And sometimes if you're lucky a new specialist crewman.
Depends.
This is typicly worth about 4,000 gold give or take a bit o'gold or two.
2200 gold out right--1800 gold for the ship when sold in port,,plus what ever cargo+cannon the ship had when ye sells it to the merchant in town.
One more bonus as it were, if your country is at war with Spain this will
sometimes be that little extra conquest ye need to get that next promotion.

Meanwhile Back at the Ranch:
To answer your original Question!
Yep,,you meet the named pirate in his office.
Basicly he is totaly disrespectfull as he can possibly be towards you and calls ye a "little dogpoop."
I.E.= he totaly blows you off, you are but a totaly unworthy rank ametuer
in his eyes and he does not wish to waste his time with the likes of you.

Now ye have a score to settle with him for that insult.
Makes you want to go back out to sea and take his ship away from him,
does it not?

Hey... I wonder if a Named Pirate's response depends on what your rank is with respect to him when in his home port. Letsay he's the 6th ranked pirate, and your the 5th or better. He certainly wouldnt be boasting of his ranking if that was the case as mentioned by Blucher.

Maybe theres a way to goade him into a sword duel that way.

BTW,

The blackspot comes from the Classic Novel "Treasure Island" by Robert Lious Stevenson. (I hope I spelled that right.)

I know the black spot idea is from the novel. But isn't that in more pirating stories, legends, etc? I think I've seen that in more than just that novel. Good read by the way, I recommend it to any of you pirate fans.

That I'm not sure of. I've read a couple of pirates stories, but haven't come across it again. I could be wrong though. Time to hit the old google search. Very Happy

If you out rank a Named Pirate they just say "I hear you are the X ranked pirate in the Caribbean. Well I'm not impressed now leave before I give you the black spot"

Duelling you can only duel Named Pirates at sea Exploding
