Is it possible to do so? The ones with mayors, not Governors. Just wondering...

No, you can't. Nations can send Invasion Force ships to capture them, though. |

I've often wished that was a feature of the game as well, but unfortunately no. |

Even if you could like in the past the settlers would flee into the wood and regoup somewere else _________________ Broadsides are stupid. Whats the point of both ships being damaged. If you evade them only they will be damaged. |

And it'd be quite illogical. You may be a Duke in England but you don't control the nation. Or do you? In Soviet Russia, nation controls You! _________________ Every time you capture a SoL a kitten dies. So please sink the SoLs |

Correct. I also typically do not convert cities after I looted them. What is the point in having a "Dutch Havana" or "English Vera Cruz" ? It just makes no sense. Further if you convert a city to be "your" nation you would not attack it any more. It would be like slaughtering the hen which gives you an egg every morning.
In the game you typically end up fighting the Spanish as they have most of the money in the game. But you want them to have many rich cities, don't you ? What life worth as a pirate if the Spanish are poor beggars ?

Further to that it would also not make sense unless you leave some troops behind. Imagine you and 2000 others live in a colony, happy to add value to your country and to raise a family. One day some evil pirate comes around, loots everything which is not nailed to the ground, rapes everything which could not run fast enough and then leave one guy in charge saying this is your new governor.
Yarrrr right. As soon as the pirate would have left the harbour you would hang the guy at the next tree, wouldn't you ?

I don't know, I might wait and see if he was any better than the last governor, who wasn't able to protect us from pirates. |

Unfortunately, you would then be subject to this new precedent you set - that the way to dispose of an unwanted governor is to hang him! |

Yes I see how that can be a problem... So I guess the only other option is hang the governor and get a puppet governor, someone you can control, if he does get out of hand hang him and repeat the process over again... After a few hangings I'm sure the new governor will get the picture... |

|
|
We all know it's not possible to attack a settlement. However, it happened to me several times that settlements were captured by other nations. I'm a Mac user and I wonder if this is some sort of a special i-feature... a friend of mine (playing the PC version) told me, it is NOT usual for settlements to change it's nationality!!!
What's your experience? |
