Exactly what kind of 'Fine-Grain Powder' and 'Bronze Cannon' do you have on your War Canoe?

Avast there, Swordeater, what mean ye by wanting to sink both Ships of the Line and War Canoes?

If ye don't want 'em, I'll take 'em! My fleet isn't complete without at least one of each of 'em!

I'll give one to you if I accidentally go too close while they are waving a white flag!

I prefer a balanced game over an easy victory any day!

I enjoy a satisfying victory as well as any other honorable privateer, or even a rascally pirate. But sometimes, it's fun to just grab an enemy and kick him hard in the aft as he tries to away...

For what it's worth, and with apologies for digging up an old topic,

I also have the PSP version and have already encountered Sloops of War (not Royal Sloops) with 20 cannon, usually as pirate hunters or escorts. For some perverse reason or another, it's more dificult to find a Royal Sloop with full guns than it is the Sloop of War overgunned!

I assume you can't "overgun" your Sloops of War after you've captured them? If you could, i wouldn't hesitate picking a 32-gun Sloop of War over a 20-gun Royal Sloop! Sailor

Unfortunately, you can't "gun" your ships at all in the PSP version. They have what they have, and there's no means to add any more. I've had to pass on many a Brig O'War before for having only 10(!) or 18 guns.

Fortunately, my first SOL came with 40 guns, and I now have a 30 gun Brig of War and a 20 gun East Indiaman to add to that to haul the swag.

That's bad! Nothing beats a 48-gun Ship of the Line, although 40 is plenty to cripple your enemy Wink I think none of the Ships of the Line i have captured had more than 32 guns...

But that twist makes it more fun to engage in naval battles, you never know if the ship that's sailing by is fully loaded with cannons. Guns Blazing

But are you saying that you can use overgunned ships then?

Aye, you catch it, you keep it. Any scurvy navy captain says otherwise gets the hot lead.

Makes for more interestin' times when selectin' your new flagship too. You have to ask, do I keep the "better" ship with less guns, or the lesser ship with superior firepower? And it motivates you to keep looking for the better ship with the better guns. Sailor

That's nice, i rarely attack any ship other than treasure ships, military payrolls, named pirates or evil spanish noblemen after acquiring my flagship. Would have been interesting to try the PSP-version one day...

But i've heard there's quite a lot loading in the PSP-version, that must be really frustrating.. I get impatient just sailing from city to city...

The only one that really bugs me is when you finish off the captain of a ship in a duel, it stops to load the scene where he is thrown overboard. The visit to the governer is the other one that comes to mind as a needless wait, but what can you expect from politicans?

The others are either short enough, or done infrequently enough that I really don't recall them.

The US sloop of war Constellation carried a total of 25 guns. That was, admittedly, two centuries after the time in which Pirates is set. The sloop of war Constellation was actually larger than the frigate that had previously borne that name.

Maybe the PSP version of the game has a time gate that occasionally allows a 19th-century vessel to slip into the game!

Well, it happened to me for the first time last night (No! Not that! Get yer mind out of the gutter!)! Mad

It was a Sloop Of War escorting a Royal Galleon. I first neutralized the galleon (make it stop shooting me- it's inconsiderate!), then I go for the escort vessel.

Well, last night (after making the galleon shut-up) I went onboard the Sloop Of War (50 ton) which somehow had 90 tons of "goodies" (not including the cannons and food): Luxuries 37tons, Spices 25tons, Goods 23tons... Confused

A 50 ton vessel carrying (if you add in the food + cannons) twice its weight- all I can say is "Keep the seagulls away! If one bird were to land on that ship, that'd be it! It would go right for the bottom!"

I hope you found a good price for that cargo of luxuries and goods!

Tortuga was the closest with the best prices. Greedy Ca-Ching! Greedy

I was fighting the English that night, so St. Kitts wasn't an option! Dag-gum-mit! Mad

Oh well. I still made out like a bandit with all the stuff. The merchant ran out of money, so I bought some food (usually I take it from plundered ships). I ended up running the town out of food and money. I had to go next door to Port-de-Paix to off-load the last bit (Lux-4, Spi-7, Good-9). After all of this, I nailed 2 trade galleons and another royal galleon, which meant that I had MORE fun stuff to sell. Greedy I just love the Santiago shipping lanes! Twisted Evil
