I have no idea if this is common knowledge or not but I found that if you parry a slash or a chop right as he starts to swing (Or sooner if he is a really fast opponent) You can dodge the attack and do a counter before he recovers. Its kind of easier as all you have to do is press the parry key instead of anything else (I personally get mixed up with the block keys in the heat of battle) Just wanted to let you all know incase it wasn;t known.

Welcome to Cutlass Isle, Dezeal!

I often wait for the enemy to make his attack first, so I can block him and counterattack. On the easier levels, attack, attack, attack works so well- and it suits my preferred playing style of charging in for a brutal battle; however, as I advance in levels, I am forced to develop the skill of exploiting my opponent's vulnerability.

Let him make the first move- watch his posture- nullify his attack by evasion or a parry; then- let him have it!

Be alert and patient, and you will win!
Victorious

Welcome Dezeal and Fluffy.

IMO parry-before-attack is the only way to go on swash. I just move too slow otherwise.

Thanks Tom,
I've also noticed this - when I parry when my opponnent is NOT attacking, he will taunt me, and I get an easy hit on him. I've won many battles this way, because if you time the parry right, you can make your opponnent taunt himself to his death. Is this a bug or is this common knowlegde as well?

Enjoy if it works. But it might just be a bug...

Yup, I think this is a well-known feature in the game and is actually mentioned in the manual as well Wink

Simply put, if you time your dodge or jump the right way, your character will automatically perform a fancy counter-attack.

It's like rock-paper-scissors, mateys. Any move you make may be right or wrong, depending on what your enemy does...

Aye, I've done this too; it is very effective against opponents with cutlasses, as they cannot react quickly to my attack (a reason why wielding the rapier is excellent). I begin a parry, then I launch an attack. Oddly, the morale bar lessens for me at this point.

Yes, for some reason, the Morale bar lowers for me as well... how much does the morale bar effect a battle?? I don't usually notice an affect.

I think the morale bar rewards the taunter. Perhaps this occurs even when the taunter is struck, but it is also possible that the stike negates the effect of the taunt - but only if it comes quickly enough.

The greater the morale bar in your favor, the faster your movements become, and the slower your opponent's actions. On higher skill levels, the morale bar is very important!

I've also noticed a difference between diffculties. But ever since I got a SoL my focus has gone to graping the crew to death.

What exactly does the crew do? I Assumed it was like health.
