Hello! I want to share my superior tactic. Cutlass only, I can't even image how to beat him with other swords especially with rapier. We will use fake thrusts.
You need to suck red bar (advantage) almost completely so you need to parry+taunt 2 or 3 times in a row. So once you got full advantage (red bar depleted) you need to click thrust (num4) and then quickly click Slash (num7) or chop (num1) as a result the marquis will try to block your thrust and you will hit them hard with this heavy slash/chop. THEN you need to use parry+taunt again and get this advantage again. So
1. Deplete red bar (advantage) with parry+taunt
2. Click Num4 then BEFORE your thurst hits QUICKLY click num7 or num1
Repeat this sequence.

I tried this tactic and beat him on the first try! I could never beat him before cuz I could never hit him even when red bar was depleted. Please tell me if this tactic worked for you.

Welcome. Thanks for the tip. Now I’m trying out my new uzi to see if that will mow him down a tad faster.

The fakeouts are what I always did in the past but now I do one of two things. I always choose rapier and if I am faster I let them commit to an attack then zap them. If not then I do a block before they even attack and then they will often taunt or commit to a high attack, then I do a low attack or else block it with mid block (only go back one space) then do a thrust. This seems to work best. Can't stand cutlass though.
