Was it because the chairman violated meeting protocol by making a suggestion?

Why would the chairman's suggestion lead to people talking at cross purposes?

Got to some dialect thing, or difference in Parliament ... hmm ...

Could it be that agreeing that one "should" do something does not precisely state an intent to actually do so?

Because the Americans were concerned with keeping their rights to expand the country west of the Appalacians and Allegheny mountains and for keeping their rights to fish the Grand Banks. The British wanted to stop American western expansion and exclude them from fishing the Grand Banks.

Raleigh wins. He was was closest. Here in America, to table something means to postpone discussion, whereas in Britain, it means to discuss it now.

Fancy that. So I was "just about right", to a Brit, and "just about wrong", to an American.
The meaning of "table" was actually my first thought, but didn't know for sure so I went with the other.

Question: If the sun were to suddenly disappear, how long would it take for anyone on Earth to notice? (Approximations acceptable)

I don't think it would take too long. How about two days?

Hmmm .. ye've caught me out somewhat here, Salty. I'd not considered the possible effect of a seemingly widespread lack of attention to global conditions among the population ... you could be right that it would take two days for anyone to notice.
However, your answer is not correct within the question's intent, sorry.

To be more precise, I'm asking for the least possible time it would take.

I think it takes light about 8 minutes to reach us from the sun, and nothing travels faster than light. So I am going for 8 minutes.

Back in the stone age when I was in school, I had to memorize the distance from the earth to the sun. I remember 93,000,000 miles (93 million).
Dividing the distance by the speed of light (186,282 miles per second) gives 499.24 seconds. Dividing that by 60 seconds per minute tells me it takes about 8.3 minutes for sunlight to reach the earth.
I'll say the answer is 8.3 minutes.

How long does it take light to reach earth from the moon? I'm not counting the time it takes to reach the moon from the sun first.
