Going with Louisiana, for the gumbo.

Not really a question but I've long wondered why the USA still calls them counties. I've always thought we were against having noble titles, so where's the Count?

(Truth is tho, there's no counties at all in Loo-syanna, only Parishes. )
Cool

Its just a traditional term. The British have counties too, but they don't use the title Count (Earl is the equivalent) and their counties sure aren't run by counts, or even earls.

You guys did well!

1) Texas 254

2) Georgia 159

7) Illinois 102

Louisiana is the only state with Parishes rather than counties.
Alaska is the only state to abolish county government in favor of boroughs. It formerly had 27.

All of the other states have more 3 or more counties, averaging 62.

Your turn, fleetp.

It's not Huston. That's in another county, and beyond that my Texas cartography knowledge is limited to what I know on a national map.

So.... 1st guess- Lubbock.

Alaska is a unique case. It is still a frontier state. Much of the state is unincorporated and local government services are provided by the state. In the panhandle, the unincorporated areas are gradually being turned into boroughs as local populations reach a critical threshold.

My institute is working on estimates of drug poisoning by county over the past 20 years, and it took me a while to figure out how to deal with county equivalents in Alaska.

I think they need to send you there, strictly for fresh seafood dinner and methodology verification purposes, of course. Wink

Lubbock, Austin and Amarillo are all incorrect.

Feel free to do a search.

Well, we told you we are not learned about Texas and this makes it obvious!

The largest city in Bexar County is San Antonio. Seventh largest city in the USA. I will come up with a new question right away....

Rusty is right. It was Adele. Good job! And I'm with you, I stopped following pop culture in 1974! I got this question from the Holland America board. This question was asked this week on a big cruise and a cruiser reported it on the bulletin board.
