I just had all my 4 lost cities spawned south-east of Campeche..
Pretty lame game, i hoped to the end only one would spawn somewhere else, but alas, to no avail Sad

Save's walking I guess...

I just re-started a new game last night as well - played for several hours on Rogue Level.

I had several Pirate treasures spawn close to each other - made my life a little easier - also found 4 of them with only 2 map pieces.

Not up to finding lost cities yet - my aim is to leave the named Pirates alone for as long as possible - to see how much gold I can get from them.

Out of curiosity - do the cities all spawn at once (so you can just visit them all in one go) or do you have to find one, get a new map, find the next one, etc?

To my knowledge they don't spawn until the previous map is cleared. You can have Monty's Hideout and a Lost City on the same map though, I've had that happen more than once. Once I had Monty's Hideout, A Lost City, and a buried treasure spot all on the same patch of land north of Vera Cruz.

Hinty

The location where you find the first piece of a map

tends to govern the location of the treasure.

So if you wish more variety

visit more varied map sources.

That's right, they spawned one at a time, and the landmarks changed too.

That's interesting Surprised did they all contain the same landmarks and use approximately the same map? I've never had anything like that happen to me...

As far as i can remember i got the first map pieces from two different beautys, in Santo Domingo and Santiago. Yes, that may have affected the locations.

Just as a heads up looks like theres a bug with the treasures, I did same thing and got bored one day and captured the #1 pirate. Even though he had over 1million on his ship I only got 10k or less.

@OP At least you know where to go after the first 1-2 Smile

That must be a bug. You always get about 11 % of their fortune methinks. You should have got approximately 110k (A ridicilously high amount though. your captain must be about 50 years old Surprised )

No hemp on board, loki? Try sailing by the west coast of North America, you'll find some people who have some...

Fame points aside... Is it even worth searching for hidden treasure? Would you earn more gold by plundering ships or using that time to search for treasure?

My main targets are always ships in the vicinity of ports. I rarely go out of my way to dig up LaFitte's non-taxable income (har har har!) or anyone else's. If the treasure is nearby, I divert course to fit it into the schedule- and if I don't, it will still be there when I am by next time.

I once had 8 out of 9 treasures in the same location, west of Trinidad.
