Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm sure this has already been discussed a lot.
But I really need help!
I read a post on a Ship of the Line spawning and someone said something about the lesser Antilles.
Where are they?
Or what other places are good to get it?
By the way, I'm playing the game on an IPhone! |

Welcome aboard, Johnny1st!
For purposes of discussion in this forum, the Lesser Antilles comprise the chain of small islands on the eastern edge of the map, from St. Martin down through Martinique, and perhaps Barbados. This area is useful to players of SMP for some purposes because it gives you a whole bunch of non-Spanish cities all bunched together, in easy traveling distance. During times of peace you can put together good trade routes, and during times of war there will be lots of warships of the three nations attacking each other.
In real world contexts, the Lesser Antilles could also include the rest of the chain, sometimes including Margarita and Trinidad, plus the small islands further west including Curacao. |

Thanks for your answer. But what is the best way to get a SoL?
I've read all the guides, but I want your opinion personally.
Ahoy! |

You should try out the forum Life at Sea for this topic. Some people have searched for the SOL for many years - and have yet to see one... |

Since I prefer smaller vessels, I have never gone out of my way to get a ship of the line. I have encountered them only twice, and captured both.
A ship of the line can come only from a wealthy city. And it will be constructed only when that city's nation is being seriously harassed by an enemy, either the player or another nation. It will always(?) appear as a New Warship, often escorted by a smaller vessel. That's about all I can tell you. |

Also, I'm pretty sure SOTL mainly appears in the later eras. If you choose either 1600 or 1620 I think you're far less likely to see one than, say, 1660 or 1680.
1640 I'm not so sure about... |

What is that like? Do you have problems because the screen is smaller than a computer screen? |

Ok, I know I'm digging up an old post, but I couldn't find a more recent one...
As far as I've experienced-
http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/w489/blkflcn/2SotL_zps4800a326.jpg
1- Play with a nation at war with each other (I was English- against French) NOT Spain (as far as I can tell, Spanish don't use SotL's)
2- Pick a location with a "wealthy" city or capital. I was in the Leogane - Tortuga bay area (Port-de-Paix was shown as a weathy city at the time). Sotl's are expensive ships to build (according to the booklet).
3- Hammer your enemies navy like a box of nails at a construction site! By this time, I had 6000 gold reward on me.
4- You will need a good ship to take on a SotL. I've not heard of anyone using a War Canoe and getting one (though it MAYBE possible). I won "Ultimate Glory" using a Royal Sloop (forgot to screenshot that. Sorry).
After I had stolen the Ultimate Glory (fully upgraded her) I was headed back to Nevis, after my stop-over in Port Royale (for repairs to my sloop). I got to Nevis sold the sloop and danced with my sweetheart.
I then headed back to my favorite spot to get even with the "French Fries"!
I just sailed past Petit Goave and was about to round the corner, when I was met by a- (you guessed it) another French SotL! I couldn't belive my luck! After I Battled it and won (and renaming it "Ultimate Doom") I headed over to port Royale for repairs. This was beyond awesome! Both of these fine SotL's I'd gotten from the French navy near the Port-de-Paix area! I fully upgraded the Ultimate Doom and went sailing around attacking mostly Dutch (England and Spain were Allies) and (generic)pirates for a while then my travels took me over to Nevis...

A THIRD SotL I captured near Guadeloupe (headed for Port-de-Paix)! I guess had really angered the French by then! Of course, I had 9000 gold reward on my capture by this time. After I captured it and renamed her "Ultimate Wrath" I continued on to Nevis. I got the repairs to my ships and found out that Mandoza had kidnapped my girl! I took my "Ultimate" fleet out and- well a MIGHTY SotL against a girly galleon-
Guess who lost (correction- not only lost- but lost badly!) [img][/img] _________________ "Families are like fudge...Mostly sweet with a few nuts." |

That really is "beyond awesome"! So that's what a Ship of the Line looks like? It looks like a Large Frigate to me. Now I know what to look for. Thanks for sharing. _________________ If you can't run with the Big Dog, stay on the porch! |

I was trying for the 4th SotL, but the Brig of War had more firepower than I thought. I had 78 guns shooting at me! The only way it could've been worse would had been if it was a SotL escorted by another SotL! Though I really doubt that would EVER happen. I think too I got greedy. I guess I wanted to see if I could get more SotL's in recorded Pirates! history. Maybe start a challenge for anyone who might've wanted to try and top it - The SotL Challenge.
When you get yours, don't be like me and think you're invincible...
The Ultimate Doom now rests on the bottom because I did... _________________ "Families are like fudge...Mostly sweet with a few nuts." |

I'm pretty sure some of our crewmates here have filled all eight slots of their fleet with ships of the line. This shot from sparticus's Ahab game might be the proof:

Impressive!
I wonder how he got from 1600's to 2000? My pirate was only 34 (I was in 1660 era), and he kept getting worse and worse at fencing (despite me chosing "Fencing" as my skill)! Also my crew went on mutiny after 57 months at sea. _________________ "Families are like fudge...Mostly sweet with a few nuts." |

A slight bug in the system - get enough gold - and the crew never Mutiny - thus sail on Forever........... |
