Been geekin' it up over at Tolkien gateway, Tolkien, Wikia and Wikipedia on Elves.

Strangely I've attempted a full read through twice of LOTR and the Hobbit more than once but I could never get past half-way of the Two Towers.

Hopefully one day I'll crack the Silmarillion and Book Of Forgotten Tales.

Could easily spend a decade reading all of Tolkien.

Anyways, enjoy the video all! Very Happy Smile Guns Blazing

Thanks, EC. The Silmarillion is my favorite of Tolkien's works, but I think I'm in a minority on that point. If you like mythology more than fantasy novels, then you'll probably like The Silmarillion.

Have you read the Book of Lost Tales by any chance?

Nice to see you both again! Smile

No, I have not gotten around to reading any of "History of Middle Earth" series. The size of the project - 12 volumes - just seems too daunting. But I will probably read Unfinished Tales at some point.

I do have two of Tolkien's recently published works related to his scholarly interests - The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun and The Fall of Arthur. I have been a fan of both Teutonic mythology and the Arthurian legends since third or fourth grade.

I love the Lord of the Rings and reread it every now and then. The Hobbit is more of a kids book, but I read it recently to my daughter. She wasn't very taken by it (though she liked the Gollum scene).

The Silmarillion I've read twice or thrice. The last time was aloud to my wife, to whom it was an excellent sleep-inducer (she's got sleeping problems, but for some reason she fell asleep even in the middle of the day every time I started reading Silmarillion to her!).

We named our daughter Silvana (her second name) because of the Silvan elves in Tolkien's works.

I rewatched the films recently.

It's hard for me to separate the films from the movies, as the films were my introduction to the movies.

Would it be inappropriate to post Ryan Reeves' content here on the Tolkien's works? He does dip a bit into religion.

I think it might be better to make a new topic.
Very respectfully,

I like the Halflings better. Bilbo, Frodo, Pippin, Merry, and Sam come across as distinct personalities and human enough for the reader to identify with. The Elves? Not so much.

I sure enjoyed watching the movies of Lord of the Rings. Saw them all in the theater and own them on DVD.

I read the book The Hobbit and then watched the movies. I still have not seen the last part of the movie, am waiting for it on my cable TV. Good fun though! The downside is it is primarily just one fight after another.....

I saw the first Hobbit movie and haven't bothered to see the other two. The costumes and other visuals were excellent, as was the characterization, but the tone and the story just wandered too far from the book.

They also padded it with too many battle scenes, which are Jackson's biggest weakness, as far as I'm concerned. I loved the LotR movies, but there were too many bits in the battle scenes that showed astounding ignorance of archaic warfare.

I didn't bother with the Hobbit movies, though I loved the LOTR movies as well as the LOTR books. Very Happy
