i finish all the missions at around age 35. after that i ditch my war canoe for a ship of the line make every city dutch. the citys become quite wealthy and i capture every fluyt i can catch. just restocking gold, food, cannons, and occasional crew from my plunders. when my flagship gets nearly sunk ill go to a pirate camp for repairs. the point to making it all one country:since they dont fight each other the citys become wealthy and you can make alot of money from cargo and treasure ships and military payrolls. _________________ Broadsides are stupid. Whats the point of both ships being damaged. If you evade them only they will be damaged. |

Another perk of changing governments is the new governor is always so grateful and will give you plenty of land. Just got 1000 acres after installing a new governor today. _________________

Yes, but some people find daughters of one nation more attractive than those of another nation at the same rating. Matter of taste.
Anyway, my primary reasons for changing governments are to get gold, and to increase in rank with a nation. |

One time when I was playing at Swashbuckler, I got too old to defeat the English captain of the guard. But I needed to get past him in order to bring a criminal to justice. (I was not about to share the reward money with him!) So I attacked the city and installed a French governor. I easily defeated the now-French captain of the guard and went on to capture the criminal. |

I did the exact same thing today, Roland. Kept getting my asp handed to me by the Captain of the Guard in Port Royale, So I turned it French (to justify the "e" on the end of the Royale) as well as to easily defeat the French Captain.
I usually convert everything to French for these reasons:
They take a LONG TIME to offer a bounty on your head after you make Duke.
They seem to have the most treasure ships and SOL
Once the other nations have been eliminated, you sometimes find outlandish amounts of gold on their privateer ships.
Their daughters are the hottest (The English are hot too, but being elderly and going up against the English Captains that seem to show up in EVERY port is an exercise in frustration) _________________ Yarrrrghhh! Ha-Harrrgh! |

Does anybody know, what happens if one has changed governement of all cities of one nation? For example if there are no more dutch cities on the map, will there still spawn any dutch ships? _________________ Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game!

Not as far as I know. But may ships arrive from Europe?
I will check it out. _________________ Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game!

Not to shoehorn the thread back on topic, but I've always felt compelled to try and reflect historical changes - I usually start in 1640 or so as the British, and can't help but go after Montserrat and Trinidad if it's possible early on. Seeing the English flag flying over those current Commonwealth countries always feels good |

New reasons?
1) I can reduce some crew size, gain loot, ( and therefore happiness ) in one stroke. Okay, maybe I gotta sack the city 3 times to capture it, but you get the idea.
2) Because Henry Morgan outranks me in this category, and I have something to prove!
3) Marooned Challenge. |

I plead the Dirty Old Man defense. Find a Spanish city with a Beautiful Daughter. Crew up. Attack and capture. Install either an English or Dutch governor. If Yum-Yum comes out in that red-and-green gown (Swoon!), the romancing is on. Keep an eye on the city. Rescue Yum-Yum. Accumulate 103points. Make Yum-Yum the happiest girl in the Western Hemisphere. Does this sound like a plan ?
Other than that, I try to stay out of "politics". _________________ "No captain can do wrong by laying his ship against that of the enemy." John Paul-Jones |

That sounds like justification to me!
I'm partial to the ginger in the turquoise dress and the St. Pauli girl myself. |

I think I can help you find your Yum-Yum! About three years ago jlangsdo (with a little help from me) figured out the relationship between cities and daughters. For each nationality and beauty level, there is one set of daughters that appears in even-numbered cities and another that appears in odd-numbered cities. Since all three Dutch cities are odd-numbered, the even daughters - including your Yum-Yum - will appear only if the Dutch acquire an even-numbered city. You can find jlangsdo's numbered list of cities here, and my collection of daughters here. |
