Without knowing what the 'features' are I don't see a need to jump through hoops to install version 22H2.
After two hours it failed to install it on the laptop. |

AMD system
Windows 10 version 22H2 Feature update
no longer appears on available updates
also the multiple failed installs no longer appear in updates history
I had left this alone as 22H2 did not appear all that useful anyway
since it would not install at all previously
Windows 10 Home does not include the Group policy editor
as a Pro version feature.
(for Home, have to edit the registry instead) so can't make
use of any policies and not the most useful update
(Microsoft simply don't want to directly support end Users
using Group policies, so left it to network admins to sort it all out)
System Info reports 22H2 Build 19045.2364
yet not appearing in installed feature updates history
as still list 21H1 as latest.
(21H1 is now out of Microsoft support anyway,
possibly part of the reason for the 22H2 rollout now
even though it may not install initially on an AMD CPU)
22H2 not reported to require a reboot after install
yet a 22H2 KB4023057 update has installed
KB4023057 was already installed back sometime in March
appears to one of those things Microsoft regularly push out
for Windows update reliability
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-pushes-windows-10-kb4023057-again-to-fix-update-issues/
June 12, 2021
EDIT:
Checked Control Panel - Programs - View installed Updates
Feature update 22H2 listed here
There should be no reason why Microsoft cannot
rollout working updates ahead of schedule, fully working & tested
and under budget and this should be the normal operating methodology
with realistic schedules.
Meanwhile back in reality it is somewhat different
With computers things can and will go wrong.
Testing helps reduce that.
It how you handle this, is what makes a good company.
(Excellent is Good you have already done.)
It is much harder to actually do it wrong, as doing it right the first time
is generally cheaper and easier.
But if you fundamentally don't care, then all bets are off.
End users are effectively now Microsoft's Q&A department.
what seems to matter to Microsoft is more the share price & dividends
or for the employee's their stock portfolio.
A working product seems to matter a lot less,
so is skimped on and can be seen as such.
A working product is that awkward thing
that Corps tend to insist on, otherwise they won't buy it.

Corsair I’m having a issue with script host error Maintenance.vbs and I tried a couple tricks recommended to fix it but it’s still there. Not a big issue but it’s annoying seeing it after start up . Media player crashes too after windows 11 upgrade. All drivers are up to date for the most part everything runs good. |

windows 11 upgrade, was this a Windows Update - upgrade in place
or using the media creation tool to create an Install DVD Image
(Burn to a DVD Disk) or USB Install Stick ?
For media player, switching to another player
may ultimately be the easiest fix
(a long standing windows irritation, is not being able to uninstall
& reinstall major integrated Windows apps such as media player
or the Edge Browser without having to wipe & reinstall the complete
Windows OS
Or try a Windows Install Repair - Refresh files
(ensure you keep your data and you do have a backup?)
unless you get lucky and there is a newer app version installer available
to upgrade
Switching to 3rd party software - media player or browser
is usually the most convenient option)
For example, the Free Open source
VLC media player
https://www.videolan.org/
Which can also play DVD Movie Disks,
and other media formats which Windows media player
cannot by default without added 3rd party codecs
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
Set that as default Windows app in
Settings App - Apps - Default Apps
for Music Player & Video Player
VLC uses it's own codecs (installed with VLC)
so can co-exist with Windows media player
To upgrade an existing install,
either download latest version and run the installer to upgrade
or VLC Help Menu - Check for updates
which downloads the latest version. uninstall the existing version
and install the new version
(admin rights required)
-------------------
Google search on say
script host error Maintenance.vbs
or
maintenance.vbs
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/maintenancevbs-windows-script-host-error/9f380a60-333b-4276-bc96-53137dd82ae1
List this as a solution (see further below)
Further solutions suggest run a system virus scan
as error can be the leftover of a virus hit entry in the registry.
can also be a Windows update or Feature pack - OS system breakage
Maintenance.vbs Windows Script Host Error
I am on a Windows 10 system. For approximately 2-3 months now I have been receiving a Windows Script Host error when booting the system. It occurs The error says "Can not find script file C:\WINDOWS\system32\Maintenance.vbs" How do I resolve this?
The solution is to basically recreate that file and put an exit script into it
Right click your Desktop and choose New - Text Document
Put this text in that file:
Wscript.Quit
Then click File - Save As
At the bottom of the save as dialog, set save as type to *.*
Save the files as Maintenance.vbs
Note you must enter the vbs file extension yourself
Open Windows File Explorer
Navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\
Copy that file from your Desktop into that folder
Restart your PC
---------------------
This video outlines the same procedure as above for Wscript.Quit
Can not Find Script File Maintenance.vbs error in Windows 10 , 11
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpNCjDZJfAw
The Geek Page
--------------------
https://appuals.com/can-not-find-script-file-maintenance/
https://www.file.net/process/maintenance.vbs.html
Maintenance.vbs is not essential for the Windows OS and causes relatively few problems. Maintenance.vbs is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Known file sizes on Windows 10/11/7 are 1,151 bytes (50% of all occurrences) or 1,133 bytes.
The program has a visible window. The file is a Windows scheduled task
Some malware also uses the file name Maintenance.vbs, for example Trojan.VBS.CRACKONOSH.A (detected by TrendMicro), and Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml (detected by Microsoft). Therefore, you should check the Maintenance.vbs process on your PC to see if it is a threat
This is also suggested in the orginal Microsoft answers thread above.
Perform these steps
1. Restarting the computer,
2. Putting the computer in safe mode then restarting it,
3. Running SFC /scannow (This does not report any problems),
4. Running a powershell and inputting these commands:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Further info on
Sfc Command (System File Checker)
http://hookedonpirates.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9078
Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM)
Typically, the DISM command is used when the SFC utility
is unable to repair corrupted or modified system files.

[Fix] Script Error C:\Windows\system32 Maintenance.vbs at Startup
https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/script-error-maintenance-vbs-at-startup/
See link for screenshots and full fix procedure
Open Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc) via the Start menu.
Expand Task Scheduler Library → Microsoft → Windows → Maintenance
Right-click InstallWinSAT task, and choose Disable
(Don’t disable the WinSAT task, as it’s a factory-default task added by Windows 10.)
Open the C:\Windows\System32 folder and delete Maintenance.vbs
Run a full system scan using your anti-virus software.
Additionally, download Malwarebytes anti-malware
or equivalent and run a thorough scan. This is important!
https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Note that the InstallWinSAT task is not seen in a clean Windows 10 setup. Also, the ServiceInstaller.msi and the maintenance.vbs files are not part of the Windows 10 ISO or DVD. It’s highly likely that the task and the related VBScript file were added by an undesirable program.
More info on “InstallWinSAT†and “Maintenance.vbsâ€
The InstallWinSAT Scheduled Task details are below:
Task: {8E61C681-5B56-4566-BEFF-436ABCBE3FBD}
System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Maintenance\InstallWinSAT
C:\Windows\system32\Maintenance.vbs

I think I stuck the script quit in the wrong place. Yeah I like VLC i don't have it now but I haven't really needed it. Media player was set as the default player so that's why I know but I rarely watch anything. Widows media player does ok. I've checked for viruses nothing comes up. |

I have been using Classic Shell now Open shell
since the Win 8x days
(For Win 10 a choice of Win Classic 98 or 2000, Win XP or Win7
Style Interfaces)
Classic Shell (later Open Shell) Freeware
http://www.hookedonpirates.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8960
Anyway on an AMD system noticed that it was failing to auto update
so was still using an ages old version.
So manually installed the latest stable version upgrade
and Win10 System response apparently a lot less sluggish.
(an Intel system had an even older Shell version and no
apparent performance response hit)
Windows updates have gone sort of quiet for now.
The only fix I have done is generally wait for an actual
working installable Microsoft Windows Update
My latest irritation is the Chrome Browser
refusing to prevent youtube clips from auto playing
unlike Firefox.
(this is deliberate by Google) |

Here's How Much an Extra Year of Windows 10 Security Updates Will Cost You
https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-10-extended-security-updates-cost/
If you're dead set on continuing to use Windows 10 after Microsoft ends support in October 2025, you can now pay for an extra year of updates. And we now know how much that extra year of Extended Security Updates (ESU) will cost.
Microsoft will be ending support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, and really wants as many people to upgrade to Windows 11 before that date arrives.
Microsoft Offers ESU to Consumers Still Using Windows 10
However, for the first time ever, personal users will be able to pay for an extra year of security updates for an unsupported version of Windows. Which, in this case, is Windows 10.
Business users have been able to leverage ESU previously, giving them more time to upgrade their legion of PCs. But now, with Windows 10, consumers are being given the option too.
Microsoft reveals that the "ESU program for consumers will be a one-year option available for $30." And that "program enrollment will be available closer to the end of support in 2025."
As a reminder, paying for ESU only buys you "Critical and Important security updates for Windows 10". However, "new features, bug fixes, and technical support will no longer be available from Microsoft". Plus, as well as the price, we now know that this is a one-time deal, with ESU only available to consumers for a single year.
All of which means that, in essence, Windows 10 users signing up for ESU would just be delaying the inevitable.
Which is either upgrading their current machine to Windows 11, or, if it isn't eligible for an upgrade, buying a new Windows 11 PC. |
