I know that it is absolutely obvious, but the obvious usually takes loads of time to find and do.
Just got the .DDS Viewer for Windows Explorer from Nvidia and it certainly makes managing the Custom folder much easier.

Now I can see them to figure out what ones I do not really like. Just to let you know, the transparent background on some of the .DDS files shows up as black in the thumbnail viewer. |

Ah yes. I got confused. I thought it was supposed to work with Internet Explorer... i'm always mixing those names up, silly me |

Come on, have some fun!!
System Tools -> System Restore -> creat a restore point
Download and install the new plug-in (for instance the .DDS viewer)
If it works fine, otherwise
If you have problems, use the usually included uninstaller.
Since most of he uninstallers do a shoddy job of removing their programs,
System tools -> System Restore -> Restore my computer to an earlier time
You should be back to where you were. |

No, actually it works fine. The confusion was that i was trying to open the dds files in IE... when i suddenly realised that they were THUMBNAILS viewer, so i went to look at the directory, changed it to thumbnail view, and realised i got mixed up
