General question - is it worth it to buy a ring and give it to a Plain Daughter? All they can do for you is provide the location of a wanted criminal usually worth 1,000 to 3,000 gold. When you catch the criminal it helps get promotions. |

I'll dance with any daughter who asks, but I usually only take it to the next level with attractive daughters, who will give me special items, or the beautiful daughter I plan to marry. In the latter case, she often gets a diamond necklace, rather than a mere ruby ring. |

If you give them the ring they will get kidnapped by mendoza so it's probably worth it in a gold perspective but you may as well save it for attractive and beatiful daughters if you have not given one to them yet. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but whether the daughter is plain, attractive, or beautiful if you rescue them from Colonel Mendoza do you not get a piece of a map of one of the Lost Cities?? |

According to sashanan's strategy guide
"First off, to get a Lost City map piece, you must do one of the following:
- Rescue a family member, and already know the location of Montalban or have
vanquished him;
- Dance near-perfectly with a beautiful governor's daughter, under the same
conditions;
- Rescue a governor's daughter from the evil Colonel Mendoza.
You basically get a Lost City map piece as an alternative to Montalban's
location if you don't need it, or by rescuing a daughter (something you will
typically do only once, though there's nothing stopping you from running as
many romance subquests as you want)."

Same for me. I usually take the romance plot all the way through with 1 attractive daughter to get 3 additional special items for the price of a ruby ring (when giving the ring, winning the duel, and the second dance). I then go ahead and recover her from Mendoza to get a Lost City map piece.
The math could work on making money by giving a ruby ring to a plain daughter, but it's a hassle to track down each wanted criminal before going back for each stage of the romance plot. If you haven't captured the previous criminal, she'll just mention that same one again.
There's also some downside to spawning several Mendoza's, because the bartender will only tell you the location of one Spanish villain. Specifically, it appears that he'll note whoever is the closest out of Montalban, Raymondo, and Mendoza (if any of them are close enough for him to provide a location). |
