Aye. If I was Blackthorne, I may have tried a daring plan to take the ship itself. That is just me, though. _________________ The Code is the Law. |

It wasn't seaworthy yet at that point, but that would have been something! |

Blackthorne deserves this win. Hopefully, it is not all undone next chapter. _________________ The Code is the Law. |

That was a clever use of prisoners. |

Hmm, in Jamestown at last. I'll wait (somewhat impatiently) to see where you take your readers. |

I need to explain a bit so the ending will make sense to you... I've been tweaking the story in a Word doc as I write, going back to make changes here and there. When I first started writing this story -- 7 years ago! -- I was basing it primarily on the universe as we understood it within the game. The game takes some liberties with politics, geography and legalities. As I wrote, I wanted to tighten up the story so it would be more historically accurate.
Here are the changes that you have not seen. (I may go back in and revise the posts later, if anyone's interested in reading it in its entirety.)
1. When Governor Bainbridge gives Blackthorne the Letter of Marque, he makes it clear that it covers attacks only on French interests, because that is the only country that England is at war with.
2. Blackthorne's officers are unhappy about this limitation. They want to be able to attack Spain, since that's who has most of the wealth in the New World. Blackthorne convinces them that they should act according to the Letter of Marque so their pardons will remain intact. Eventually, they would earn enough prizes to be able to retire free and clear of their past crimes--although he knows they will have to work harder and longer.
3. The attack on the Spanish merchantman was changed so that it's a French merchantman.
4. Because of the restrictions under the Letter of Marque, the crew is even more unhappy with Blackthorne than in the original draft of the story. This makes it even more uncertain that Legacy would return to pick up the rescue party off Port-de-Paix.
Let me know if you want me to replace the posts with the final draft. I'll also revise the map where necessary.
Thanks for reading! |

It's you're call on revising the earlier chapters. I started reading about the time that the Dove ran aground, and probably won't go back to read the revisions. |

Agreed. I probably would re-read it for sake of clarity/continuity, but in the end that is your call. _________________ The Code is the Law. |

All right, gents. The posts have all been updated to the finished text. I've also updated the maps, but you may need to refresh your cache to see the new image. (The only change was a caption changing "Spanish Merchantman" to "French Merchantman."
Again, thanks for reading! I appreciate it. |
