No.
Saragossa was founded sometime between 25 BC and 12 BC. |

Would the Sara part (or Zara) be a corruption of Sulla? _________________ " ... the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it. " George Eliot |

No.
The man who founded the city (or swiped it from the locals, depending on your PoV) named it after himself. The biggest change to the name since then has been the dropping of the original first syllable. |

So this is circa Auggie's reign, and pre- Popes... No New World, and therefore
no Sargasso Sea.
I still got nothin'... but maybe something Latin or Italian sounding will percolate. |

We are in Curaçao today. Will be going to the beach and then stroll around the town and do a bit of hopping. Weather not quite as hot. We had a great time snorkeling in Bonaire and it was easy to imagine a Pirate Haven there. You could sail down to Caracas and knock off a Military Payroll and then sail to Curacao to give the Governor his cut, then sail back to Bonaire and our Pirate Haven to celebrate! |

You are all so close!
In analyzing the name, you are all trying to divide it Sara-gossa. Instead, try Sar-agossa. |

Mr. Blue wins! Caesar Augustus name the town after himself, calling Caesaraugusta. |

Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple were all founded in the same year. What year? _________________ " ... the mistakes that we male and female mortals make when we have our own way might fairly raise some wonder that we are so fond of it. " George Eliot |
