In the last 10 or so years it feels like the quality of video games and especially Triple A titles has declined. But why? With advancements in technology, higher budgets, larger teams of developers, how could gaming as a product be getting worse?? Well, that's what I'm here to tell and show you...

The depth is sometimes horrible. They have more technology to work with than any previous year but they just don't do it well anymore. They go by good graphics and if you want depth in your game leave it to the modding community. Years ago games had poor graphics but maxed out in depth and strategy. Look at pirates gold. Those graphics are so 1993 but in some ways it's stilll bettter than SMP. More cities, more gold, better music and a real feel of the time period

As far as games are concerned it’s my believe although still popular among many youth and hard core gamers the game consoles and PCs especially the desk top PC is giving away to phone Apps and tablets as well. People are so mobile nowadays and breaking out a laptop isn’t always convenient but a phone well everyone has their phone out. McDonald’s I remember once had games at certain tables to help entertain kids and it’s been awhile since I saw those presumedly they broke often and kids had their own tablets or mommies phone to play with.

With various Covid Lockdowns

The rise of the Silver Surfers - Veteran Gamers who have spendable income,
but not as good eyesight or reflexes anymore,
and probably value a good game story and game design, gameplay
and a properly tested actual mostly working initial game

all of which tend to be expensive game development

Most game companies just appear to want a franchise they can use
to print money with loot boxes, subscriptions
with DLCs and skins and other content to appeal to Gamer Whales
who would rather buy it all than grind their way through the game
to get it.

Games have become commodities to be shipped asap
regardless whether they actually initially work or any good
Doesn't appear to be many actual gamers now in the Game publishers

Tablets and smartphones are better suited for casual games
For Strategy games a PC is probably better

Adding better and better eye candy graphics may make a
game more attractive and Kewl looking,
but does it actually make the game have any better gameplay?

and does anyone actually have the hardware to run it
if not a console, tablet or smartphone game,
or even want to upgrade the hardware to run it.

(graphic card companies may provide sample cards
to game developers to ensure the latest & greatest
becomes a minimum requirement rather than what
people actually have)

Most people who want a tablet or smartphone already have one
so now more people upgrading previous hardware.

Is there the console or PC System stock actually available in these
Covid times to actually buy one

I think a problem with the computer industry in general is that we now have a generation of programmers who were never users. They are incapable of understanding what users want because they have never been users themselves.

The original generation of programmers were users who were creating the things they wanted to use themselves. This is one instance where professionalization and specialization didn't work.

I guess that’s why games have modders. Programmers in my opinion shouldn’t be the issue as a good game has to have other people besides the guys plugging it in to work. Visiual art , storyline and general ideas about the game have nothing to do with programming it’s just needed to make the game from a dream to a CD or download. I simply think it’s hard to get a good group together and a longer deadline is needed to make games. Today it’s all about doing three jobs and hurrying the hell up. You have ten games to help out on and five needs to be done by tomorrow. In other words it’s not the whole team screwing up the games. They probably love games but it’s always the guy in charge who probably calls Lowes to order a light bulb and have it installed in the house when the old one quit burning. Somebody just making everyone else on the team misarable and then they decide a career change is in order.
