Stumbled over this, may be of interest

Framework Upgradeable Laptop

(Warning, here be Marketting PR Spin)

If gaming with a laptop also consider a Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
and maybe a Set of Speakers

Thin and light performance machine continues to set standard for fixable, upgradeable laptops

The latest 13in Framework Laptop proves premium PCs can be made serviceable at home.

certainly fast enough to handle any general computing task,
It won’t handle high-end gaming

Pros: swappable ports, repairable and upgradeable design, great performance, decent battery life, contains recycled aluminium and plastic, well-made, good fingerprint scanner, good screen, great webcam, good keyboard and trackpad.

Cons: no touchscreen, lid a little flimsier than the rest of the body, short availability, with wait time for purchasing new machines.

A svelte, powerful ultraportable that's also repairable and upgradeable

By Alex Wawro
March 31, 2023

the laptop that promises to let you customize, repair, and upgrade it to an unprecedented degree, all while remaining affordable and ultraportable.

Powerful enough for work
Not great for cutting-edge games

While the Framework's lack of a discrete GPU makes it a poor choice for playing graphically demanding games, the Core i7 CPU gives it enough muscle to play older and less demanding games well.

Pros
Slim and portable
Tall 3:2 screen looks great
Excellent keyboard
Unprecedented access to modify and repair

Cons
Unimpressive speakers with weak bass
Fan is loud and unpredictable

Review: Framework Laptop’s 13th-gen Intel upgrade helps fix its battery problem

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/05/review-framework-laptops-13th-gen-intel-upgrade-helps-fix-its-battery-problem/

But for upgraders, the AMD Ryzen board will probably feel more transformative

ANDREW CUNNINGHAM - 5/16/2023

...
There's also one other upgrade, one that you might not need to spend money on.
Framework announced that it had made a change to the way its HDMI and DisplayPort Expansion Cards work; apparently, when mixed and matched with ports other than USB-C, these display outputs could "keep subsystems powered" whether they were in use or not, potentially consuming extra power. There's a firmware update that will fix this issue for DisplayPort Expansion Cards.

Intel's Iris Xe integrated GPU
basically fine for older and less-demanding games at lower resolutions, but you wouldn't choose it as a portable gaming rig except in emergencies.

AMD Ryzen 7040-series processor
combine the modern, efficient Zen 4 architecture with a more-capable integrated GPU based on AMD's newest RDNA 3 architecture, plus GPU performance that AMD says will be somewhere between 130 and 239 percent faster in games running at 1080p (the latter is a bit of an outlier).

expect it to be a little slower than the Intel Framework Laptop in multi-threaded CPU tasks but competitive in single-threaded performance and much better at games. It won't be a gaming laptop, really, and you'll also need to add new DDR5 memory to your shopping list.

A Ryzen 7040-series chip should make it a whole lot more usable for basic 720p to 1080p gaming—not really a "gaming laptop" but certainly a "laptop that can play games."

The good
Still upgradeable, still repairable, and it does both without making too many other compromises.
13th-generation Intel chips perform a little better than 12th-gen versions while delivering much better battery life.
I like the matte display a lot more than the glossy one, and its 3:2 aspect ratio and resolution are still good fits for this screen size.
Expansion Card system is still really useful and cool.
Comfortable keyboard and trackpad. Good-enough webcam and speakers.
If you upgrade your old laptop, you have some options for re-using your old motherboard, including 3D-printed and pre-made case options.
First-party Linux support.

The bad
A shade heavier than similarly sized laptops from the competition.
Relatively limited screen options—no OLED, no high refresh rate, and no touchscreen.
Battery life may still be low relative to things like the newest X1 Carbon or Dell XPS 13, since other laptop makers should all benefit from Intel's 13th-generation power usage improvements.

The ugly
We'll have to wait an unknown number of months to see whether the AMD version is worth buying instead.

including replaceable ports, bezels, and even (gasp) mainboards

THE GOOD
User-repairable in every way
Pick your own ports
Comes in prebuilt or DIY models
Online marketplace with tutorials
Bright, high-resolution screen
3:2 aspect ratio

THE BAD
Battery life isn’t great
Unimpressive speakers
Pricey for what it offers (as a laptop)
Generic looking
Ultimately still reliant on long-term company support

Intel Iris Xe
it will not run the AAA games at 60 FPS
but has no problem with popular games that aren’t as graphics-intensive.

Intel states that the Iris Xe graphics can feature up to 1080p 60FPS.
While this will be ok for several games it can be a slight miss for the more graphic-intensive ones.

casual gamer with graphics options turned down.

(AMD CPU with Integrated Radeon Graphics,
is a better Gaming option, see further below)

How Intel integrated graphics leveled up while you weren’t looking
Iris Xe means you can't laugh anymore.

https://www.pcworld.com/article/394990/how-iris-xe-improved-intels-integrated-graphics.html

PCWorld AUG 16, 2021

...

Intel integrated graphics.
These three words are synonymous with doom for PC gamers hoping to play even the most rudimentary 3D games on a laptop or desktop.
An upgrade to AMD Radeon or Nvidia GeForce graphics was once mandatory.

Times have changed
recent Intel mobile processors have shipped with Intel Iris Xe graphics,
an underappreciated upgrade.

AMD and Nvidia continue to garner the lion’s share of gamer’s respect. But if you’re on a budget, or you want a thin laptop, Intel’s Iris Xe is your best bet.

Yes, Intel Iris Xe is good (well, decent) for gaming

For best Intel Xe performance, buy the right laptop

Intel’s drivers are still lackluster compared to AMD’s and Nvidia’s,
both in compatibility and features.

In short, Intel’s drivers are good enough.

Intel's using DirectX12 Emulation to fake DirectX 9 support for older games

https://overclock3d.net/news/gpu_displays/intel_s_using_directx12_emulation_to_fake_directx_9_support_for_older_games/1

DirectX 9 support? Intel's faking it

Mark Campbell
15th August 2022

Intel's using DirectX 12 to add DirectX 9 game support to their ARC series GPUs

...
Intel's new ARC series graphics cards do not natively support Microsoft's DirectX 9 API.

To support DirectX 9, Intel's 12th Generation integrated graphics and new ARC A-series graphics cards now utilise Microsoft DX9On12.

This conversion layer allows Intel to support DirectX 9 though DirectX 12

Modern GPUs can simply overpower DirectX9 games with their raw compute performance, and DX9 to DX12 conversion is expected to have a minimal performance impact.

Intel turns to emulation for DirectX 9 games after ditching native support

https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/15/23306160/intel-directx-9-support-emulation-direct-x-12

By Jess Weatherbed
Aug 15, 2022

...
Intel is removing native support for DirectX 9 (DX9) from its new Arc graphics cards and Xe integrated graphics on 12th Gen processors, with support now coming from emulation thanks to DirectX 12

applications and games based on DirectX 9 can still work through [the] Microsoft [Windows 10 and Windows 11] D3D9On12 interface

Certain Older Games may check on DirectX9C support
by physically checking for actual DirectX9C installed filenames
which may not be present with the DirectX12 Emulation.

Microsoft insisted - check the support level through the DirectX9
API interface, but this got ignored by some Game developers
