Came across this for the regular game,
may also apply to the East Indies Mod

https://www.reddit.com/r/SidMeiersPirates/

Wondering what the limit of gold might be...
https://www.reddit.com/r/SidMeiersPirates/comments/18wx36d/wondering_what_the_limit_of_gold_might_be/

the maximum possible amount of gold a player can have on hand
(or banked as part of the Fame score calculation)
before you get overflow errors or crashes

ProductionsGJT & Akuro_Wolf

Apparently 2,134,048,009 before the game crashed.

Quote:

looks like problems start when you get close to the maximum positive value of a 32-bit signed positive integer (2,147,483,647).
Perhaps a calculation within the game code breaks or overflows,
(crew happiness, perhaps) based on that gold total, causing the crash,
when you get over 2.1 billion gold or so

Using Phalzyr's SMP Trainer v3.2 the max gold I can give myself is 999,999,999. Any more than that and it just drops the extra digits.

Once I have that amount, however, I can give myself 'x' tons of spice or other cargo and sell it and the gold does increase by the correct amount.

Pink flags and sails? Why and any solution?
https://www.gog.com/forum/sid_meiers_pirates/pink_flags_and_sails_why_and_any_solution

Hellenstone

I reinstalled Pirates 2004 a few days ago.
Of course I added some flags and sails to individualize my ship.
But every time I add just one single flag or sail to my custom folder in game from time to time some ships have pink flags and sails.
I tried various combinations and files, all with the same result.
I than decides to pick a sail and flag and replace the standard pirates files with these and now everything works fine, no pink flags/sails at all.
But why is this?
Does anyone else have this phenomenon?

CasualKiller

Pink is a default color when the game can't find the correct dds file.
Possibly the desired flag was mis-named or somehow corrupted.
That usually means a file is in the wrong place or the wrong size...

Response by themodelcitizen:
I think if you have anything in your custom folder, you need to have all the defaults (flag_fre, flag_eng, frag_spa, flag_dut, flag_pir, flag_ind, flag_mis etc) or else they'll show up like that?

flag_fre.dds
flag_eng.dds
flag_spa.dds
flag_dut.dds
flag_pir.dds
flag_ind.dds
flag_mis.dds

pink flags
http://www.hookedonpirates.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7128
(one suggested image file corruption fix)

Since you have Pink Flags with both mods
PotEI & Brethren of the coast,
suggest start with the flags not included in either mod,
are the flag names present & correct?,
last resort recopy the flags only to the Custom folder
from the mod source files and overwrite the existing flags,
or to the Assets mods sub-folders if using any flags in there

(probably best to avoid duplicates of the same flag name to
both folders)

Removing all the mods content and reinstall again
from the beginning, may be the best approach.
Suggest test play check the game after installing each
small batch of flags for any pink flags

FYI,

Retried the mod Mediafire link again

East Indies 2020.rar
File size: 69.59MB
Uploaded: 2023-10-14 00:16:31

Download now works again
(mediafire needed about 2 days to fix this,
after hitting the report a problem button)

Oh cr*p, it went down? Didn't even realize. Thanks for letting us know. I believe the Nexus mods link will work as a backup (same version IIRC)

I have one other question. What is your resolution while using windowed mode? I see my computer can hold a resolution of 1680 x 1050. isnt that the resolution you set for pirates while using window mode? Should i set my PC to 1680 x 1050 myself? My native is 1920 x 1080

This is what I use

Retail SM pirates DVD disk Game release
Patched to v1.02

For a Desktop display 1920 x 1080
SM Pirates manually set to a windowed 1440 by 1080

(NOT using the in-game resolution changer
as this can write an invalid resolution entry in the config.ini
& DirectX then fails to initialise error on game start
instead edit the config.ini )

Windows 10
C:\Users\[Your profile name]\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Pirates!\config.ini

config.ini
WindowWidth = 1440
WindowHeight = 1080
Fullscreen = 0

giving a Stretched 4:3 Display

Going beyond 1400x1050 can de-synchronizes the mouse
(having to click to the lower right of a button for it to activate)
or can truncate the screen display
making the game only playable with the keypad & not the mouse.

Later the Skid_Sultan's Widescreen fix below was available
but I was happy enough with the manual settings playing with the mouse
avoiding blurry visuals

Stretched 4:3, Default Resolution of 1400x1050 without GUI Loss
(Anything Beyond this de-synchronizes the mouse).

Widescreen fix for Sid Meier's Pirates! with no more GUI loss!
By Dr.Skid Guide
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2228839602

When using custom resolutions, i.e [1920x1080],
the game just stretches to maintain aspect ratio,
which causes a lot of important User Interface parts to be
off-screen and unusable.

While this is not a true widescreen fix, the game will be now running at its original highest 4:3 resolution of [1400x1050] now stretched to fill up 16:9 screens overriding the game's default aspect ratio priority. While its not perfect, it does let you play the game with stretched widescreen, which was originally hard to do.

There is a choice to make here:
Play with slightly blurry visuals, but with a working mouse.
Play at your native resolution, but without a mouse.

Open the archive, choose a patch [with or without mouse]
and extracts the folder's content into the game's executable directory and the config file into Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Pirates!.
Replace any existing files. Easy does it!

Should i go with 1680 x 1050 or 1600 x 900 with the windowed mode? That way i can set my comp to one of those resolutions as well?

1280 x 1024 is the next one down my computer supports

up to you

(for a Windows Desktop display 1920 x 1080
SM pirates set to a windowed 1440 x 1080)

give it a try and see how you get on or not

It may depend on your graphics card hardware & Monitor,
Windows OS & Windows Graphics Driver

Last resort, consider using the Widescreen fix above

Other Alternates below

Wide Screen Gaming (wsgf)
https://www.wsgf.org/dr/sid-meiers-pirates-2004

Suggest the Racer_S's universal resolution changer (version 2)

extracting it and copy to where the Pirates!.exe game executable
is and edit the resolution.ini.

On Wsgf Link for universal resolution changer
right Click, save as to download

So it plays better on windowed mode, what exactly happens if you dont?

Could i leave it on 1024 x 768 so my picture isn't chopped off at the bottom of my screen using windowed mode? Native is 1920 x 1080
