clue: it has to be encoded within the game save. |
Yea, I've looked at the sav file with a text viewer, but it's all jibberish
I am working on it though | Encoded in Text form? NFW
There must be codes for the events in the save file. |

NFW= no f___ing way?
you're probably right, but I wouldn't know what else to use to try to hack the save file.

Also, the various files in Lang0 may have some of the decoding text in them.
Like this number = that character string.
This is not gonna be a trivial task.
You need to start from some known saves and guess about your starting points within the save files.
They may be using bytes, words, more or even less for each event.
You will need to find/build a binary reader for the file . . .
The best guess will be where there are oooooodles of zeroes, will be the tail end of the event log. Especially if you start with a very early save and compare it with a late game save. |

Agreed.
I was thinking of starting a game, saving it, then going back in, visting a port (or other log event) then resaving, then comparing a files to differences. _________________ "To Wives and Sweethearts! May they never meet."

Is it just me?? What you guys are discussing, is what I 'still' refer to as hacking. is that the proper term for going into the code, decrypting it, and twisting it to personal use?? Or is it now called 'Modding' ?? and I am using an outdated term??
I'm not talking about logging into a Bank mainframe and dumping millions into an offshore account. Just simple editing of available files.
Back in the day, esp w/ Civ, I went into some of the files and edited other country responses, and even went as far as editing the opening of the game to show some other graphics and text.. _________________

Specifically, I'm trying to go into the save game file, not to cheat, but to extract the data for the Captain's Log so it could be exported into a .txt file. Frankly, I think it was incompetent of Firaxis to not include this feature. _________________ "To Wives and Sweethearts! May they never meet."
