Hong Kong Folk Tale

Seems that Hong Kong just loves the British.

Many years ago, during the British rule of Hong Kong, and during the age of sail . . . (as the folk tale goes)

There was a pirate. A particularily nasty pirate. He loved to capture British ships. In fact he loved to capture lots of Brittish ships. (as the folk tale goes)

This pirate used what the Westerners would call "Assault Junks", small vessels without cannons, built to attack and board. (as the folk tale goes)

Eventually, the local merchants complained quite loudly to the British authorities about the loss of ships and cargo. They demanded protection from the Royal Navy. (as the . . . oh you are getting tired of seeing this now aren't you?)

So the Admiralty started sending out British ships to protect the merchants. (as ...)

Well, nobody told the pirates.

Nobody told the pirates.

The pirates saw two ships where they were expecting to see only one. What would any self respecting pirate do in a situation like this?

You guessed it, they captured both ships.

Scratching their heads over their plunder they finally decided what to do with their bounty . . .

They dis-mantled both ships and used the parts to construct more assault junks. (remember they do not use cannons)

Really annoyed the Admiralty. (as the folk tale goes)
