I just felt like dropping by and giving my old friends a salute. I'm not frequent here because I'm no more interested in the Pirates! remake but still, let me offer you a round of tamarind and HQ chinese tea!

Hey Hayreddin, long time no see!
What made you loose interest in the game? |

The cartoonie screenshots, other news about the structure and gameplay... It might still be a good game but totally out of my scope. IMHO, Mr. Meier's vision is outdated by decades and just a remake in 3D will offer nothing that I don't get from the original.
My type of naval/pirate themed games are Sea Dogs, Cutthroats, PotC and Port Royale (the original, not the bad sequel).
I see you've worked a lot on the place, looks nice! I hope you don't mind a stranger popping his nose from time to time.

Howdy HB. It has been awhile since you'd popped in. Thought you'd fallen off the face of the earth or something.
Sorry to hear that you're disappointed in the game, though I guess the game is not for everyone, especially those who are looking for ultra-reealism as I know some might be. _________________ Shiver me timbers!!!

You can mod out the cartoony graphics You'd be surprised how easy it is to make something bright, colorful, and cheery looking look very dim, evil, old, or just plain badass. If player models and other models can be made, I'm sure you will be able to make the game be, for the most part, however you want. _________________ “Perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy, piracy itself can be the right course?†|

Thanks for the hint, Pilo T. If it's that well moddable, then why not giving a try?
I still have a big obstacle I'm afraid: System specs. Mine is terribly outdated.
Cheers mates!

well, remember, if you can't model well, you might have to keep the models, but a simple grey scale or, if you have photoshop or Flash MX(or higher) you can darken colors for a quick and easy look. I bet, if this game is a hit, you can even get a blood mod somewhere (like the insane blood mods for Jedi Academy, which has NO blood normally). I don't think the current graphics are too bad. I'm usually one that won't buy a game, no matter how great, if the graphics are cartoony. Almost all the PS2 hits, like Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, etc... I refuse to play (I don't have a PS2, though, I have XBox cause the games own PS2), just because the graphics are cartoonish, and the main characters are... humanoid animals... it's just retarded. So if I'm not bothered by the Pirates! graphics (too much, I realized by reading this thread that I, myself, am going to want to make some skin modifications, maybe make some pirate ships too, as in ships that aren't so colorful, like the Black Pearl ), then you probably shouldn't either. But if you hate them that much, I feel bad for you, cause you hate cartoony graphics more than me, and I thought that was impossible. I might model if there are gmax plugins for this game too, btw, but I don't have 3dsmax, which is what Morrowind required... so I doubt I'll have the opportunity to model. 3ds is like $500+ We'll have to wait and see. I did notice that the animations are a little cartoony, and that bugged me for about a week or two, but I got over it. _________________ “Perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy, piracy itself can be the right course?†|
