To get the timing right I find it helpful to sort of "bounce" your hands on and off the numpad, just slightly, on beat. For example, every beat, I take the numpad a little bit. And when I'm supposed to make a movie, I press the correct button on my way down.

This makes it easier for me to get a little spin while dancing. It just hepls me keep the rhythm.

I usually tap the beat with the hand that's not on the numpad. That way I don't hit any keys accidentally and my hand stays in the correct spot. I may have to try it your way, though...I'm always looking for ways to improve my dancing prowess.

What? You stomp on the keyboard? MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Seriously, folks....ahem. Keyboards vary. The springiness of the key, size of the key...like in other areas of romance...OOOPS!

I've played rock and roll, and blues, most of my life. The only music I've played that is dead on top of the beat like this dance music in the game is bluegrass. I'm just not accustomed to it. I feel it's kinda...yuppyish or something. Too well dressed. Makes me want to sit up straight in my chair. Ew. I'm used to a backbeat that's narrow and hard to master...thanks Jim Morrison.

Heh, interesting that when you play, you normally cue off the backbeat.

From what little I've seen and done of English country dancing, this stuff fits right in with the music of the period it's supposed to be. But I find the timing of the footwork in the dancing to be not always "right", as in it's not when I would put my foot down if I were dancing. Fractionally off, but still off. But the timing is, indeed, rigid, so if you notice that you have to step a shade before the "beat" or a shade after the "beat", that's consistent through that dance. It varies from tune to tune, certainly. It may vary from one time through the tune to the next time through that tune (which I suspect is due to something else running in the background which pushes the synchronization of the music and the "footwork" so it's a little off).

Yeah, i've noticed that too, although i think you generally have to step a shade after the beat to get the pirouets. Another rhing i have notices, is that on swashbuckler difficulty, one of the dancing tunes changes the tempo all the time while you dance, thus making it even harder to follow Sad

Seriously, I finally decided to cue from the lady's movements. I am dancing with the lady, and I use the music secondarily, because I noticed that glitch, too. The AI's idea of a beat, and the beat of the music aren't precisely in synch. Once I get a flourish, or spin, then I use the movement of the dancers visually more than I do the music.

Actually... I have turned off the music all together... so I rely only on the movement.

I found music to be distruptive at time... as Airsaw already pointed out.

I think the music helps alot, oldman Question
With it on you can notice tempo-changes and get the overall "feeling" of when you must press the buttons, but i assume everyone has their own preference Wink
