Yay first post!
Well I was just wondering how many of you guys have ever done a game while only being allies to the french. There is no talking to other governors or entering other cities unless you just conquered them and were not given the option to change them over.
Because I am completing one and it turned out very profitable with good french cities on the hispaniola and Martinque I was able to turn the entire world french except for St. Augustine and Havana which I just have not gotten around to yet and I have a fleet of SOL's thanks to my good dutch friends.
So has anyone else also tried to be nice to france for once |

My must successful pirate was friendly to the French, married a French governor's daughter, and conquered the whole Caribbean for the French.
But I've never played a game where I only visited the ports of one nation. When there were still ports belonging to England, Holland, and Spain, I eagerly visited them for trade or information or necessity (as long as they let me in ).
Although I can't say I was completely loyal to the French. As I conquered more of the Caribbean for them, they became richer. Started seeing a lot more French merchantmen labled "Treasure Ship" sailing around. After all I've done for them, I consider it fair compensation that they let me swipe a ship or two.
And welcome to the forums, Smiley. |

Right now I'm playing a game which started in 1640, with France, and I'm a very France-ist guy in this one. The only French ship I'll ever attack will be a SoL if I find one. Of course, I'll earn promotions with other nations as well, but with the Spanish, I'll kill English people and stuff like that, I won't attack Frenchies Then when I'm a Spanish duke, I'll be off to profit again.
However, the way you describe the gameplay would be a bit hard and even boring, so I'll not go as far as to ignore the entire non-French world. _________________ Every time you capture a SoL a kitten dies. So please sink the SoLs |

Actually at first it was a bit hard with all the pirate hunters and no friendly ports to go to but after i conquered the spanish main, the hispaniola, and the chain of islands from martiniqe it became almost too easy. Now that I am about twenty years in to it though I have decided to spare the other nations excepth the spanish who I have limited to San Juan and St. Kitts because I still have about 6 Raymondo's to catch and I do not want to chase the whole caribbean. I was thinking of eventually being nicer, but I doubt the Spanish would let me in. Even when I don't do anything my bounty goes up now it is at 250,000. |

They won't let you in? I would like to point you to the nearest Jesuit Mission!!! Those guys do the job very well, actually, I think they do their job too well, as there is no point in paying to the governors in my humble opinion if you can just get away with it by escorting some crap ship.
Also, grats to the bounty. That's an achievement there, even with the Spanish, your head isn't worth 250,000 gold doubloons every day _________________ Every time you capture a SoL a kitten dies. So please sink the SoLs |

Smiley must have run into the same problem I did.
Again, on my French pirate, I escorted an Amnesty proposal to Trinidad. I was let in to Trinidad and my bounty was wiped clean, but every other port still fired on me.
Maybe it was a bug. Maybe I was just really, really bad. Maybe it was because I was French. |

What I love to do is align myself with the British and the French, becoming a Duke for both. I fly the British flag and sack ports to turn them British, but I marry French girls because they are SO gorgeous and have really sexy blue dresses, even if the daughter is plain. Also, for the most part the French and British tend to remain on good terms with one another so I have two armies to back me up! _________________ No poor dumb pirate dog ever won a swashbuckle by dying for his crew. |

I always play as the French(I like the idear of gentlemen pirates). Plus Tortuga, Petit Goave, and Martinique usually become rich capitals for unloading my winnings.
I usually sprinkle French ports around the Spanish main(Santa Catalina and Curacao), and usually borrow a few French treasure ships for hauling the loot about. |
