I have not noticed this - any idea what the system specs are on this machine?

This happens to me, so I can confirm it. I'm running a P4 2.8GHz, Radeon 9800 Pro, 1024MB RAM.

Screen was flickering and than in all scenes, cutscene or normal game scene, some textures were missing. The flickering was there the whole time too. Had to quit the game and restart it. It was fine then.

This sounds like a hardware issue. If it was us, it would not have been fixed by a restart.
Sorry, but Fred Bob be havin' a tough time buyin' dis sorta argument! Smile Thar be many software resource handlin' problems dat are indeed temporarily fixed wid application and/or OS restart! Rolling Eyes E'er heard o' Winders 95, i.e. memory leaks? Confused

Please be a givin' close attention tew late game/life behavior (score > 110) as thar been plenny o' concerns reported about general slowdowns and/or crashes.

Also, long playin' sessions (3+ hours) has been reported as thought tew be contributin' tew a general slowdown effect! Very Happy Saving an' restartin' de game seems tew pep thangs up, it has been reported! Wink

I need to know if this is an "always" bug in this (or any location). If you could get us a save for this or solid steps to reproduce, it would help a lot.

I doubt a specific location will be able to be given, however I have experienced numerous occasions when marching when my army gets hung on a terrain feature, and a couple times I have been stuck and forced to return to the ships, but this is so far only just after debarking and ending up probably too close to shore. The fix would be some better location checking or possibly better coastal-crossing checking. If the troop winds up being at sea when planted, they should be able to teleport towards the shore perhaps?

This winds up being an issue with not enough graphics power, I am fairly sure. The user should try to reproduce this, then try doing it at a lower resolution, and maybe zoom in to get it to go away. I doubt Firaxis is going to worry about this one when they can just say you need a more recent video card.

There should really be an option to attack a town when you enter it. Sometimes firing upon town does not get the option.
I have never seen the option not come up after a couple shots. Is this a consistent issue?

I have so far played a full game up to level 3 difficulty (my level 4 games keep getting interrupted) and I have fired on towns from ship in level 2 and level 3 difficulties for certain. In both cases, a couple shots seem to be all that's necessary to reduce the Wealth level of the town (and thereby canceling the whole point of attacking it in the first place), but I have not had a town force me to attack it from having done this. Naturally, you would only shell a town if you were in good with that nation. However, I have always had to land on the beach nearby (and on many islands, it is very hard to NOT sail into town), never being able to attack some island towns unless that nation doesn't like me.

As the poster stated, give us the friggin option to attack the town or turn away from it, just like we have when we're marching there! Now and then, I don't intend to enter the town, just sail near it, and wind up wasting 8 days of my valuable life. Compound this over several times and I'm missing out on a respectable fraction of my game from unnecessary town entries due to trying to land next to it and attack or cut a few more days off my sailing times.

I'm surprised, PF, that more of the listed issues with the game in the patch thread weren't addressed.

The problem with towns not being able to attack is that when you have become a duke you will have to sack a DOZEN towns before you automatically have the option.

I have found if I go back to the governor over and over he will often give me more land. He will say oh you sank a galleon blah blah and give me 50 acres, afteer having given me more 2 other times in the same visit.

One annoyance is that when I try to anchor near a town, it will take me into the town, wasting a week of game time.

Sometimes I have to anchor a loooong way away from a town to walk to it to attack it.

On some islands it is virtually impossible to attack them once they believe youa re a good guy.

Yes, of course I only updated *after* the glitch appeared repeatedly with the old driver version. Silly me thought I'd fix things that way... Rolling Eyes

I was up around the Havana, Florida Keys area attacking Spanish Galleons. I turned Florida keys in to Dutch so I could have a place to stop for repairs, men and promotions. I was heading into Florida Keys and noticed 2 Spanish pirate hunters behind the island, sand bar or what ever it is. At any rate, these 2 ships sailed right through solid land to get to me! Mad I defeated them even with sail damage. A little while later there was a merchant ship in the same place so I figured I would try to "sail through land" like the spanish pitate hunters did to get to me. Of course the bug wasn't there for me Crying or Very sad LOL... This seems to be a serious bug in this game. Non player controlled ships sailing through solid land and other ships. Its still a fun game though even with these bugs. I'll just have to wait for the patch that will hopefully fix these problems.

You could tell them to give cyberops a call and implement most of what he has already done.
But....that makes too much sense.

I don't know if this is a bug as such, but I certainly find it annoying. I attack a villian's ship, reducing its crew enough that their flag turns white. I then board the ship, get the little movie with the sword being presented to me and the message about the demoralized crew giving up, but then then the sword fight with the villian starts, the size of the ship's crew matters to the outcome and some of my crew gets killed fighting them.

Either don't have the crew "surrender" (sparing the time it takes to load and run the surrender clip) or just have the sword fight be like the ones in the taverns where the crew does not matter.

I'd also like to see something done with the Treasure Fleet, like make it more recognizable. The closet I think I've come is 4 Treasure Galleons together but I was never sure it was the fleet. The original game informed you when you captured it and it also went into the log (I think). Also make it really worth going after, in the original game capturing the fleet paid off very well.

Here is a lab to examine the treasure fleet.

Issues:
Regarding the land disembark loop: This happens to me whenever I disembark onto a tile that has a landmark feature. My troops bounce off the feature, spin around, bounce off the ship, spin around ad nasaeum.

Regarding the escortee/escort cargo issue: This happens to me whenever I select the escortee as my initial target, but end up boarding the escort ship first. What happens is you recieve the cargo from the ship you selected to attack in the menu. THEN you recieve said cargo again when you finish off the escort and take out the escortee.

Glitch: I have noticed ships getting stuck inside towns. There were a coupld of french ships spinning around in tight circles trying to get out of a dutch town. Whom they were at war with. They had probably been there for some time as the every time I floated past, there they were, spinning around through the town graphic. Anyone else seen this? This could be related to ships passing through shoals and rocks unharmed when I explode at the slightest touch.

I have a P4 1.4 with a Radeon 9600. Why do my sea battles slow down to turtle on 1024x768 when there are more than two ships?
Also, why the hell is the sneaking through town so slow? I had the game running great at top resolution until the sneaking through town bit. I can run Doom 3 quite nicely, but this game requires only a PIII 1.0.

Also, if you find your duels getting harder the longer youplay the game, restart the game, you'll find your wee pirate's agility renewed also. Well I did.

I've seen something similar happen with the damage, that is, the ship I boarded suddenly has the damage percentages of the OTHER ship during the 'transfer cargo' screen, and sometimes the ship and upgrades status is not shown at all.

After sacking Montalban's hideout, I'm not put back on land (in case there was another pirates treasure or lost city that I'm after in the same region) but rather given a variation of the "disembark or sail away" dialog (and the land view turned oddly blue but with the trees still sticking out of it !).

I have had that happen. I tried sailing into and out of town to free them up. Then I went into and out of the next town, and they were still there spinning. I had to sail close enough to town to let me choose to attack one of the ships. When I was given the option to attack, I was fighting them both right up against the town. My ship and the two others just kept on fighting as we were sailing through the fort and docks of the town.
