Ok, I've satisfied myself that the method of taking shipping lines from Wealthy cities is a good way to get a SoTL. But unless you have a war canoe to tow one around, it's pretty ungainly. So does anyone have any reliable way of getting a Royal Sloop? 150 pirates, lots of cannons, pretty fast.... |

(Laughed myself sick)
I use 5 war canoes for those tough jobs, 3 for regular uses. Like to have a spare in case the Flag Canoe gets damaged.
Towing a SotL. Man that must be painful. It slows you down soooooo much. |

ask the governors for missions like delivering peace- or war declarations. they usually ask you to escort a royal sloop. on these missions the royal sloops are usually not as strong as if they are pirate hunters.
if you engage a royal sloop because you do not have one try getting a standart sloop before as your flagship.

Canoe needing a sloop to bag a Royal Sloop now there is another thought.
Must lay off that stuff.
I still remember using an under equipped War Canoe to bag a SotL at Swash. Didn't even have any of the fencing equipment and less than 50 crew. |

Heh, thanks, that was extremely helpful. Somehow I got two "Ship of the Lines" after only half an hour of game play, but I have yet to bag a Royal Sloop. I'll work on that one. _________________ “Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.â€Â-Mark Twain |

How the hell could you get two 'Ship Of The Line' 'somehow' after playing half an hour? I've never managed to do that yet. But Royal Sloop is very easy to be found. Kill spanish ships near a spanish port, and they send after you some Sloop of War or ROYAL SLOOP. If I remember well, the ultimate/peace treaty ships are usually Mail Runners. But I'm not sure beacause I haven't played the game for two weeks...Blast the job and family!... Arrrgggghhh _________________ I don't have a drinking problem, 'cept when I can't get a drink. Your memory serves you well mate. Ultimatums and peace treaties are carried on mail runners. And yes, the Spanish might send out Royal sloops after you if you piss them off. Haven't played for two weeks?! Man, I had to stay away from the PC for three days and I'm beginning to convulse already! Blasted exams! Not mine! I'm through with that! My girlfriend's!

I had same problem. Roc Brasiliano has one as his ship, fairly nicely upgraded. The Frenchies would only send sloop of wars after me. I'm a sloop fan, and really wanted a royal. They might send one out if the price on your head is more. They are listed as "naval ships only", so piss of a country. Hope that helps. |

Perhaps the French army never has Royal Sloop at all, try the Spanish! They must have some! _________________ I don't have a drinking problem, 'cept when I can't get a drink. Tom Waits |

Would be interesting to see a batallion of French Army Sloops. Then again a brigade of Spanish Army Galleons.
Sorry, couldn't resist. |

Oh yes, the sight of a Royal Sloop with some would be pirate hunter charging out of a spanish city is a common sight for me this game. I made it my quest to rid the Spanish from the Spanish Main lol, did it too except for Pto princpe, Panama, and Gran Granada. From Trinidad to Maricabo is Dutch and Santa Marta to Vera Cruz is English. France got Santiago, Havana, San Juan and Santo Domigno. If I knew how to post the game map up I would, but with my bounty up to 110k at the peak of the rampage, the only thing in the Spanish fleet were damn Royals, Fast and War Galleons lol. I never see a SoL unless I'm playing nice with the Spanish and start some hate and discontent with the rest of the world. Never seen a dutch SoL though, not to say they dont have em, but Im pretty confidant that they do not exsist in the Spanish Fleet in any way, at least not during the 1680 era on adventurer level. Good ship though the Royal, I can't really cant us anything smaller then a sloop though. I tried to do the Pinnance / Canoe thing and spent more time on a sandy rock then out being a pirate lol. _________________ Loyal subject to the Ruler of the Raging Main

Never had an issue finding a Royal Sloop within 10 minutes of starting a new game. I like to play as Dutch for their proximity to the Spanish, and all it takes is the sinking of 1-2 trade galleons outside of one of their cities to coax out a Royal Sloop pirate hunter. |
