Has anyone encountered this strange ship during escort duties?
I've had gov and immigrant ships starting out from port and going crazy. They would zig zag around my ship, go in circles wildly and poof, disappeared.
The next thing I knew, the ship had arrived at its destination while my ship was but a few days out from port.
Not that I'm complaining, but I find it's rather weird. |

I've had them zig zag like you describe. But never had one disapear. Not unless I make them disapear with a 32 gun salute amid ships from my War Galleon! Probably just another bug in a looooooong line of bugs and inconsistancies in this game. Hopefully a patch will solve these bugs. _________________

They often zig-zag. And sometimes they disappeared (and never reached their destination), but there was good reasons, the evil enemy hunters...

I've not had zigging ships, but once the ship that I was supposed to escort reached its destination the very moment I left the city that it was supposed to depart from. Both me and the intercepting pirate privateers were quite dumbfounded... |

Well, it happened in Eleuthera (I was supposed to escort someone/something to Grand Bahama), so I was, in fact, very close or inside the Bermuda Triangle...
Uh, that's rather unnerving... |

Yes I saw it a few times, it zigs extremely fast, you can hardly follow it, funny. And after some seconds of super zigging around the small islands in the location, it joined my flagship again. It happened above Tortuga when I was mass escorting emmigrants from the jesuit mission there.

Yes, but have you seen a Trade Galleon back-up 3 times in a row yet?
Now that is funny. Like trying to parallel park and you hate the car behind you. |

I too have seen this happen many times when nearing an enemy port. I think that it has to do if you have captured or sunk a lot of that country's ships that they are afraid of you and run back to port. Look at the messages that appear over the ship. It usually says something to the affect of "Stay away you scurvy pirate" or something like that. The town in question usually sends out a pirate hunter after you as well. _________________ Money makes the monkey dance! |

I assumed that the zigzag was due to the ship tacking against the wind. |

No,I've seen the zig zag, its not tacking, demonic more like. I've aslo seen a something froma ship I havent seen since my Pirates days on the C64 and that is a ship traveling through the waters and an impossibly high rate of speed doing nothing but 360s all the way across teh map. No clue where it was heading or what nation it was, but is was a small boy, sloop at best, no chance in hell catching it unless its coming right at you.
The C64 bug was pretty reliable after a few hours of play, but one day I managed to capture the possesed ship as it crashed into me from no where lol. I remember it was a Dutch Cargo Fluyt that had a very bugged unlimited cargo hold capacity. It only happened once and the game crashed as soon as I put it into my fleet and tried to sail with it, so steer clear if you be see'in ghost ships _________________ Loyal subject to the Ruler of the Raging Main

I have noticed that. I have also noticed the ships stopping and starting. And, there is also how the small ships (war canoes in particular) start spinning like crazy as they are about to enter a port. |

I am wondering if this has anything to do with all the video glitches the we have all experienced. May want to add it to the list.
Everytime I see a war canoe do that, it makes me want to play the song "Disco Inferno". _________________ You may fire when ready. |

'Spinning like crazy' thing: I can't justify but I think it's not a kind of video glitch but the wrong sailing algorythm the game developers used. _________________ I don't have a drinking problem, 'cept when I can't get a drink. Tom Waits |
