Here's a quick few ideas about putting game data out where it is needed.
* When you choose your nationality, wouldn't it be nice if the name, type, and destination of the ship are shown so you'd know what you'll be starting with?
* The date should be shown when you're in port.
* Hull and Sail damage % shown in ship-to-ship combat? At LEAST for your own ship, and would be welcome for the enemy too, although that might be too much to ask.
It's weird to me that the developers haven't thought about these. Then again the game is not particularily verbose _________________ Blondebeard: "Madre de Dios! Es el Pollo Diablo!!"

I like your suggestions. It would me nice to see how much damage you've taken or inflicted while in battle. That way you would know when to run or board a ship before it sinks.
Probably wouldn't see your destination since you can change that at anytime. Also since this is random at that beginning, they probably figure since your going to be there in a few moments that it's not necessary.
The date in port would also be a nice addition. _________________ You may fire when ready. |

You can actually have an idea of how much damage you have inflicted on your enemy now. Just look at the enemy's sails and the amount of smoke pouring out of it. _________________ Shiver me timbers!!!

Well your destination isn't obvious unless you've actually started the game, I'm talking about knowing where which of the four nationality ships is headed so you'd know which one would be better to choose. Then again you wouldn't take the nationality that gives you a barque simply because it's headed to the Eastern areas, now would you.

Well that's why I said it may be too much to ask. Even in Pirates! Old we didn't have exact numbers. However, I still find it would be interesting to see how much damage I make with a broadside on average. The numbers would help. _________________ Blondebeard: "Madre de Dios! Es el Pollo Diablo!!"

I like your idea about the destination in the beginning of a career. The one about the % I like less. You mean by a bar or something or % numbers shown somewhere? That would take some of the realism away. In real combat I don't think they had time to calculate the numbers. They looked at the other ship to know its condition. Just like we do in the game now. |

I would like to see the % of damage also. I did it again the other night. I was trying to whittle down a treasure Galleon with my War canoe so I could board it and have a man power advantage. My guy is a medical specialist and a lousy sword fighter with none of the aids. To make a stupid long story short. I ended up sinking the stupid Treasure Galleon with my little War Canoe. So yes seeing ship damage would be great!!! _________________

I am much more keen on having data on your OWN ship rather than the enemy - you are correct Gun, the visuals on the enemy ship are often enough, realistically. Then again, how come we know how many guns and men the other ship has? But I really would like to see stats on my own ship during combat, it's sometimes difficult to know when your ship's in bad condition (telling the different kinds of smoke plumes apart can be difficult at times).
Although I'd like to see the destination on the nation selection screen, I think that even the ship's suppsed destination would be alright - what's more important is ship type, since I hate having to Alt-Tab to check and see who's best to start with. _________________ Blondebeard: "Madre de Dios! You have a point there, as in a real situation someone would have told the captain too what the situation is beneath the deck etc or at least I think so. We're looking at the screen ofcourse and it can indeed be difficult to tell what shape your ship is in. |
