I don't remember if I've answered this elsewhere, but what the hey...
My name is an adaptation of "veterinarian". In greek, veterinarian is Ktiniatros, which derives from ktinos (=animal, beast) and iatros (=doctor).

Well this is the first time I have answered this since I am a newbie.

I got my name "Aetius" from a Roman (German) general who defeated Attila the Hun in 451 A.D. in what is now France. I like reading about Roman history and this name kind of stuck to me. I have used the name Aetius also for AD&D games and other RPG's as well.

Hmmm... I wonder where my name derives from... Lets think about this. ummm... Laughing

Well enough kidding around, If you haven't figured it out by now my handle derives from the fact that I am a Pirates! fan Cool

I wish I had a deeper meaning like a lot of others I have read but its pretty much just that simple.

I like this thread and so it gets back up there to give the newer members a chance to take part, I'll tell my story.

Real name, "Jack." When I was about 12 years old, I was camping and trying to hang out with older guys, 17 or 18 or so. They were cool. They smoked cigarettes. They drank beer. They had mulletts and jean jackets. Anyway, they told me if I wanted to be in their "gang" or "crew" or whatever they called it, I had to go a boat ride with them to this "haunted island" out in the middle of the lake and go into the "haunted cabin" by myself. Sure thing. I did it. When I came out of the cabin, those guys and the boat were long gone. Luckily, I was a good swimmer and made it the mile or so back to the campground. Everybody started calling me "Island Jack" after that. It wasn't until years later I saw the movie "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams playing a character called "Island Jack." Hey, I thought, he stole my name!

My name just happens to have been stolen from a blooooody marvelous James Clavel novel called Tai-Pan. I recommend it (and the rest of JCs Asia series) to anyone in need of a lovely example of historical fiction.

I knew the name sounded familiar but not sure where I had heard it.

You are right! Great books. Now I just might pick them up for a re-read.

Aaaargh... it's me... Yellowbeard... I have a long and storied past...

Quote:
The pirate Yellowbeard captured many galleons, killing over five-hundred men in cold blood. He would tear the captains hearts out and swallow them whole. Often forcing his victims to eat their own lips, he was caught and imprisoned... for tax evasion.

Here's a few of my favorite sayings:

No woman ever slept with me and lived.

I'm sure I killed the last one I raped, it can't have been you.

Betrayin's all part of piratin'. If you don't know that you're not even close to being a pirate, "Prawn of my loins", my foot!

I'm going to kill anyone who gets in the way of me killing anyone

Fruit of me loins? I haven't got fruit in me loins! Lice, yes, and proud of 'em, but no fruit!

Dying's the easy way out. You won't catch me dying. They'll have to kill me before I die!

and of course...

Us Yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we're dead.

I choose Eskimo Pirat - because I'm from Greenland. Actually I'm not fullblood inuit, my father was danish and my mon is greenlander, so it would maybe better if I had choosen "halfblood" instead but it sounds like an indian, which I'm not

I decided to be 'fossaman' because I liked fossas. In case you were wondering, this is a fossa:

I chose Crookshanks because I'm a big Harry Potter geek. Crookshanks is one of the character's cat. While I'm pretty indifferent about cats, I thought the name was cool and sounded pirate-y.
