Once in a blue moon. Maybe never. I have only come across one once. I captured it of course, and renamed it the 'April Love'. Lol.
SOTLs only spawn as 'New Warships', and they never spawn out of Spanish ports. In fact, I'm not entirely sure if they can be English or Dutch either. The only one I ever captured was a French one out of Port de Paix. _________________ "I'm not addicted. Seriously, I'm not."

Frigates are a dime a dozen whenever the Dutch, English, or French go on the warpath, but the only Large Frigate readily available for potential prizing is the obvious one: the Adventure Galley.
I've never seen a battleship, but I've bounced into more than my happy share of Flag Galleons. |

You can get Large Frigates from the English as Pirate Hunters, just keep attacking everything that comes out of an english city untill they send one. there's a one in 4 chance that any pirate hunter the english send will be a Large Frigate.
The English also use Large Frigates as Escorts and New Warships, though those two are not as easy to come by as pirate hunters. The English and Henry Morgan are the only ones that use Large Frigates.
To know where to find any ships, check out my
' Comprehensive Ship Usage Chart ', which is in this forum _________________ Check this out -----> piratehaven.net |

I heard that blackbeard should sail with a frigate and henry morgan with a large frigate, because i'm not a bombastic pirate ,i hope too conquer there ships.SOTL is all together an other matter,i think 1660 is the best timeperiode to conquer one,but not a fact,it only comes iin a blue moon under "new warships" |

Frigates seem to be fairly common. Large Frigates appear to be rare.
I've only seen one Ship of the Line, in the 1640s (actually, it was already the 1650s); it appeared as a Dutch New Warship, sailing towards St. Eustasius and escorted by a Sloop of War. Unfortunately, I was chivvying some French immigrants to Guadeloupe at the time and had to deal with a rude Dutch privateer, so I couldn't investigate. _________________ I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do. |

Finding a Ship of the Line is function of how many French, English, or Dutch cities there are. This is because anything New Warship goes from one port of a nation to another port of that same nation.
As the English, French and Dutch have so few cities in the 1600 time era, your chances are small, unless you go and covert cities to those nationalities _________________ Check this out -----> piratehaven.net |

My "Piss off the English" game had me attacked by at least 3 or 4 frigate-class ships a month. This includes both Frigates and Large Frigates. As far as I can tell, Large Frigates spawn as Pirate Hunters only out of Prosperous and Wealthy cities, and only if you've also pissed that city off enough. During this game (Which was also a "Capture the SOLs" game, incidentally) I saw about one SOTL per year. The details on how to do this are in my FAQ, currently posted on Gamefaqs, but soon to make its appearance here (If falconer ever gets around to it).
Excuse the shameless plugs.
P.S. It's possible to see a Large Frigate escorting a SOL, but the chance is not only minimal, it's practically nonexistant. _________________ Blondebeard: "Madre de Dios! Es el Pollo Diablo!!"

I rarely see anything above frigate in 1620 and 1600 but I have seen some large frigates in 1640+. I have never seen a ship of the line though, never! |

I've seen quite a handful of SoTLs in the 1680s. Most of them were confiscated and sold at the nearest port (sometimes the port they were headed to!). The shipwright must have thought I was nuts selling the SoTL and keeping the war canoe (that had beaten the giant), but I told him to shaddup and show me the money! _________________ Let the Beast inside you free! |

I've started a new game where one of my primary objectives is to capture a SOL (long lost relatives? WHAT long lost relatives??). I've been bombarding the Dutch and capturing every Dutch ship I see. St Martin finally spawned one NEW WARSHIP, so I went and capture it... it was a frigginfrigate. Aaarrrggghhh! Where's my SOL?

Ever since I have applied the patch, I have not seen a ship of the line. Has anyone else? _________________ Prince John: Save me, save me! Hurt them, hurt them!

Never ran into a Ship of the Line yet, but I'm only on my third adventure, and they are rare, so I'm not surprised.
The only Large Frigate I've run into his Henry Morgan's.
Frigates are really common. Especially if the wars are getting fast and heavy. In the span of an in-game month, I captured 3 Dutch Frigates. All were carrying Invasion Forces. Captured 2 more French Frigates later. Again, as Invasion Forces. Have seen, but never engaged, several more English Frigates. One was a Raider, the other was carrying an Invasion Force that successfully captured St. Eustatius. I think those might be the most common version. |
