so has anyone found a way to get artillery back into the game?
also, in the text.INI file it lists all the units, but has units like grenadoes that i have never seen in game. does anyone know what these are, or better how they could be put back in game? |

Forget artillery. I doubt raiders would drag artillery through the awful terrian of an island. Definity if they are trying to get near enough to a port without being found. Thing that disapoints me is the lack of guns over all. Even when boarding ships. Swords were secondary firearms were primary. Why Sid got this wrong i dunno. The Average pirate was no good with a sword and would rather use a firearm. Better for the shock tactics when bording ships. |

I think the intention was to allow artillery, like cavalry, as a unit for city garrisons, not for pirates.

In that era, firearms were still single-shot weapons. If you survived the initial volley of lead, you would be expected to take up another weapon and continue fighting.
In any case, I don't think Sid was aiming for historical accuracy so much as cinematic convention. Think Douglas Fairbanks or Errol Flynn. |

i agree with the part about not rowing them to shore. but like in civilization 4 your ship should be able to bombard the city. _________________ Broadsides are stupid. Whats the point of both ships being damaged. If you evade them only they will be damaged. |

Press the spacebar when you get in range to bombard the city. |

There are a few islands in my copy of the game upon which I cannot land, or if I can land, I'm walking on water , and it keeps asking me about returning to the ship. ( I presume that's a glitch ).
I can only enter the port.
Which is a problem if I want to capture a city that is not hostile to me.
I did learn to fire as I passed, which angered the city into returning fire, and so I was able to initiate an attack of the city by sailing into it.
SO MY QUESTION IS-
Does firing upon a city from my ship change anything besides the attitude?
Does it kill off garrison, or destroy wealth, for example? |

I myself do not know as I have not tested it. Perhaps you can give it a go. save you gave just prior to entering port - then try to 2 scenarios.
1.) Land and check the stats.
2.) Pound the Port - then land and check the stats. |

Rusty Edge, if I remember correctly bombarding enemy towns before capturing does indeed reduce wealth, that's why it's not advicable..
I don't think it does much about the garrison, but I may be wrong. _________________

Well, getting my ship shot up doesn't do it a lot of good, either.
I haven't experimented yet. |
