Did you know that if attack a named pirate, only he will go into battle against you, even if there's another named pirate in range? I found this interesting. If ships from warring nationalities will help each other out, why don't named pirates?

Professional courtesy. Or maybe professional jealousy.
"Stand off, Kidd! Captain Incognito is my meat! Nobody steals a victim from Blackbeard!"
With pirates, it's hard to tell the difference. _________________ I only do what the voices in my head tell me to do. |

Who would the other pirate attack/help. Your both cannon fodder for him . I should think he would wait until the survivor emerges and then 'blast hell' out of him. _________________

Unless both ships emerge unscathed, then he should think twice about the prowess of the victor.
I know I would... _________________

If both ship emerge unscathed I would think they have no ammo or ray charles for a gunner _________________

Nah, you must not be a canoe jockey....
If you do it right, with or without a canoe, you can rush the ship, miss all the incoming fire, and just board. Thereby not doing much more than scratching paint. How else can you bring pristine prize galleons home for sale? _________________

By letting yourself get pounded to pieces in the process, of course!
However, it does make sense that the other ship would then move in; presumably the victor would have taken a pounding during the battle. _________________
