I make a post (such as this one), thereby earning gold. Then I delete the post (if it can be done - most forums allow the poster to delete his posts).

Do I have to refund the gold earned? Or do I get to keep it? Greedy

Question

Any time an individual makes a post, they earn gold.

Any time an individual edits a post, their gold is adjusted based on the change, if you remove text, your gold goes down, if you add text, gold goes up.

Any time an individual deletes a post, their gold goes down.

If at any time an individual deletes a post the would remove more gold than they have, their gold would be in the negative.

It is far easier to just let a post / thread die than to delete the post.

Hopefully this answers your questions, if not, please feel free to PM me, or any other moderator.

I know that when posts are deleted you lose gold, but how do explain the fact that when you write something and post it. Then you discover you made some mistakes so you go back and edit it by taking a couple of words out because you duplicated words by mistake. How come it comes up with a message saying you have earned .0123456789 gold? When in all actuallity it should say you have NOT earned .0123456789 gold. Or it should say you have earned a negative X amount of gold? How do you explain that one? It has happened to me many times because I make a lot of mistakes and I go back and correct the post and its giving me a small fraction of gold! Lost I don't know I can't figure that one out. Lost Confused

Hmmm so that's how Howie got 22,000 gold pieces. Heck! I just write long-winded boring posts for the 200 gold reward, I find it much easier.

Innocent

Just kidding.

@ Headrock: They may be long winded, but they are defintely not boring. I, for one, enjoy reading about your escapades during your various challenges. Since I can't play Pirates! at work, I read your stories and get my fill...

Thanks for being long winded..

Me, I just tend to ramble... Razz

Great Question!
Pirates just can't help themselves so to speak,eh?
Just Like Jack Sparrow,,when he docked, gave the dockmaster 3 schillings,
then helped himself to the coin pouch the dockmaster foolishly left unattended.
For your courage and honesty to at least ask this question i shall donate
5 gold pieces to the author of the question!

Actually, I have two machines running, one has work displayed, and on constant update. Then there's this one, that I get to play on.

The work one, IF somethign comes up, is accomplished in record time, thus leaving me to read at my leisure over here...lol

So, no, no work stoppage here, just lack thereof. And in my line of work, that's a good thing!!

What is your line of work, Westley? I can think of several jobs where having stuff to do would be bad, but I'm probably totally wrong.

One of the ups of working in a lab is that some tests have loads of "dead time". For example, what I'm doing right now (PCR for any who cares, which is getting a DNA sample and multiplying a region of it millionfold times for any who wishes to know) requires about 10-20 minutes to set up (mix the reagents essentially) and close to 4 hours of waiting time, which means if I don't have anything else to do I just sit back and visit forums and stuff. Yup. being a lab rat sure has its pros! Smile

I know what you mean Doc, I work in the scientific field too (although my field is logistics rather than research) but i too have periods of downtime... especially when it is raining... or early in the morning... or tea time... or when the Ph.d's cant be bothered to come over for the gear that is sitting here on dry ice for 'em. Nice bunch of folks though Smile

Yup...I'm fortunate enough not to be burdened down with my professor's stuff...well, not overburdened at least. We've done some experiments together involving lab rats and surprisingly enough he did most of the dirty work. I did all the lab chores (assays and so on) whereas he cleaned the rat cages, my assistance to that task being loading their trays with food and restocking the water supplies. Not a common sight when it comes to professors and guys doing their thesis, right? Smile
