Just wondering what everyone else is anticipating while waiting for Pirates! to be released.
I must say that I am actually anticipating Rome: Total War AS MUCH AS the new Pirtaes! Maybe even more. Release date on that one is Fall 2004. So a while to go still. If anyone has broadband I highly suggest you look for a few trailers of that game. Is Pirates! slated for a release this year, BTW? My guess is it's got to be 4th quarter 2004 as well --- which would make that a very good quarter.
Aside from that I am looking forward to The Sims 2. Not much else on the horizon from what I can see.

If you like trading sims as well and appreciate the caribbian, look for PR2. The international Version shall be released in April or May. _________________ Don't consider a creation to beeing perfect, unless you sat on it from dusk till dawn |

I'm not sure about PR2 really... I mean, what differences does it bring to the table compared to its predecessor? Of course I haven't played it yet, but it looks like PR with some new graphics, something that Ascaron is good at.
Personally I'm looking forward (with reservations) to the expansion of The Guild. The original was/is a great and refreshing game that unfortunately got abandoned by both its publisher AND its developer (a patch was announced well over 1.5 years ago and the only thing that was released was a beta patch that made things worse) but had TREMENDOUS potential. Perhaps the addon will fix things and add good stuff to it.
Other than that, I'm a little gamed-out to be honest. I'm mostly a RTS and RPG gamer but all RTS's seem alike these days and good RPG's are getting very thin. Looks like we're in for another RPG draught soon. In fact, all games look alike these days. Same game with different graphics whenever you load up something new. That's why I'm hoping for Pirates! 2 to restore my faith in gaming. |

I have The Guild. Not a bad game really but the outdated graphics were hard for me to overlook.

I never really cared for graphics and it's not THAT bad really. I mean, I still play Sid Meier's Colonization. Dust it off every couple of months or so and play for a week. Graphics are crap but gameplay is terrific.
Another game I'm looking forward to is The Sims 2. I've seen the movies and screenshots and damn, it's amazing. The original didn't live up to the graphics of its peers when it was released but this is going to set new standards. |

PR2 will definitely have significant differences to PR. If you have a look on the German site of Ascaron and goto News, you can chose PR2 and have a glimpse. There are some WIPPs (work in progress pics) as well as detailed overview over the features.
PR2 will be up to a certain extend moddable.
The main strength of Ascaron although is, to design "manager"-games.
But I am looking forward to their RPG "Sacred", as well. _________________ Don't consider a creation to beeing perfect, unless you sat on it from dusk till dawn |

Ditto to "Rome: Total War" and "Port Royale 2". Add maybe Akella's "PT Boats" but no international publisher has been fixed for that one yet.
There's been a rumour for a "Cossacks 2" for long but I doubt if it will ever make it to the market. GSC already announced that it would be their last historical game.

To be totally honest, there aren't too many games that I'm really waiting to come out other than the Pirates! remake.
I couldn't wait for Civ 3 to come out, and that takes up alot of my spare game time (Civ 2 takes up plenty of time too).
I'd agree with Falconer that graphics don't particularly make the game. I too, still play Colonization at times for a change. And I'll even pull out Railroad tycoon every now and again.
I am also waiting for the remake of Defender of the Crown (by Cinemaware) to be released, but this has taken a long time also, especially for release in Australia). _________________ Shiver me timbers!!!

I personally want more game play than graphics .... When a gamin company actually gives me the game and the graphics together. Now that is going to be the game of the year for me.
Right now since I play a wide variety of games (Love to game) I am waiting on a few slections and maybe more once info is fed to me through other sites I belong to. (Just don't post much there)
Pirates! is at the top of the list (I know you said besides Pirates!)
Gran Turismo 4
Grand Theft Auto: Sin City
Driver 3
And yet to buy NWN Hordes of the Underdark ... still waiting on the server I play to upgrade before I buy it.
I am in to a lot of games and love Beta testing them if given the cahnce... But the top spot will always remain to PIrates! first and Civ II second |

GTA: Sin City was just a wild guess that was wrong - the title is GTA: San Andreas (Which completes the triology from the first game - Liberty City - Vice City and San Andreas )
Games I look forward too is:
Sid's Pirates!
World of Warcraft
Next GTA (whatever name is:))
Call of Chtulu (arrr' - i never spell that right)
Black & White 2
Civ 4
*Fallout 3 ( *cry* R.I.P. )

Well this is where I got the info from about Sin City unless there is a newer article out that would call it otherwise I have yet to find it.
http://www.x-tremegamez.com/article11.html
Would be glad to get more info on that game, but Pirates! is more important to me than any of those games on my list. |

I hear ya, mate! It twas a dark day indeed when Black Isle closed it's doors. I thought Baldur's Gate was canned as well, though. Here's hoping against hope that Fallout is out, but not for the count. |

Baldurs Gate 3 was continued or moved to another place within interplay as far as i know - though the story in BG3 has absolutely nothing to do with the story of BG 1 and 2, apart from that it takes place at the same location. _________________ Once a pirate, always a pirate!
